Synopsis: Welcome to Hartwell, a quiet seaside escape where uncovering old secrets could lead one woman to discover the meaning of a love that lasts…
While Doctor Jessica Huntington engages with the inmates at the women’s correctional facility where she works, she’s always careful to avoid emotional attachments in her personal life. Loss and betrayal taught her that lesson long ago. But when she comes across a set of old love letters in the prison’s library and visits the picturesque town of Hartwell to deliver them to their intended recipient, she finds herself unable to resist the town’s charm—and her attraction to the sexy owner of a local bar proves equally hard to deny.
Since his divorce from his unfaithful ex-wife, Cooper Lawson has focused on what really matters: his family and the boardwalk pub they’ve owned for generations. But the first time Jessica steps into his bar, Cooper is beyond tempted to risk his heart on her. Yet as their attraction grows hotter and Jessica remains stubbornly closed off, he begins to realize it will take more than just passion to convince her there’s only one real thing in life worth fighting for….
I was really, really excited when I received an email from the UK publisher about being on the UK Blog Tour and reviewing this book! I'm a big fan of this author's other contemporary books and I was eagerly anticipating this book's release, so I of course said yes! I'm so happy I did say yes because I loved this book! I was desperate to read it after I read the synopsis and saw the cover, and I can say that it definitely lived up to the high expectations that I had for it! The plot developed at the perfect pace and it seemed to have a different feel to it than a lot of other contemporary books that I've read! The plot also had a lot in it and it kept me interested and wanting to read on! I also loved the sexual tension between the two main characters and that there were some seriously hot scenes too! I just completely adored the plot and I loved absolutely everything about it! The ending was very beautiful too! The characters were also amazing and made this book even better! Jessica was the main female character, and Jessica was someone who was very sweet and very kind, but had a lot of sadness in her life at the same time! She didn't have family surrounding her and she worked in a potentially dangerous job! Jessica also wasn't happy with her life, but it took some convincing for her to realise this! My heart also went out to Jessica in this book because she had been through a lot and she lost a lot of people in her life in such a short space of time! Jessica was such a strong character though and I also connected with her all the way through this book! Cooper was the main male character and he was seriously hot! Cooper was also a character that really intrigued me when he was first introduced and I wanted to know more about him! Cooper had also had a rough life, and he had been through things that made it had for him to trust people and let people in! He had also lost people that he was very close to and this had a big impact on him too! I felt very sorry for Cooper in this book because of what he had been through, but he was such an amazing guy and I loved the way he was with Jessica! He was protective of her and it was easy to see that he had deep feelings for her! I also really enjoyed that this book was written from both Jessica and Cooper's point of views! I didn't understand why Cooper's point of view was in third person and Jessica's was in first person, but I was just really happy that it was co-written lol! It helped me connect more with both characters and allowed for more to happen in the plot! I also can't wait to read the next book in this series, especially for who the main characters are going to be! These two characters were secondary characters in this book, so I can't wait to read their story! I'm definitely going to be on pins and needles waiting for it to release next year! The UK cover for this book suits it perfectly! I love it a lot and I love that the US cover isn't hugely different to it because I'm a big fan of the US cover too! Big thank you to Piatkus for an ARC of The One Real Thing and for having me on the UK Blog Tour!
