UK Blog Tour: The Bourbon Kings [The Bourbon Kings 01] by J.R. Ward!

Publication date: 28th July 2015
Paperback edition: 432 pages
Source: Paperback
Rating: 5 stars

Synopsis: The #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Black Dagger Brotherhood delivers the first novel in an enthralling new series set amid the shifting dynamics of a Southern family defined by wealth and privilege - and compromised by secrets, deceit, and scandal...

For generations, the Bradford family has worn the mantle of kings of the bourbon capital of the world. Their sustained wealth has afforded them prestige and privilege - as well as a hard-won division of class on their sprawling estate, Easterly. Upstairs, a dynasty that by all appearances plays by the rules of good fortune and good taste. Downstairs, the staff who work tirelessly to maintain the impeccable Bradford facade. And never the twain shall meet.

For Lizzie King, Easterly's head gardener, crossing that divide nearly ruined her life. Falling in love with Tulane, the prodigal son of the bourbon dynasty, was nothing that she intended or wanted - and their bitter breakup only served to prove her instincts were right. Now, after two years of staying away, Tulane is finally coming home again, and he is bringing the past with him. No one will be left unmarked: not Tulane's beautiful and ruthless wife; not his older brother, whose bitterness and bad blood know no bounds; and especially not the iron-fisted Bradford patriarch, a man with few morals, fewer scruples, and many, many terrible secrets. As family tensions - professional and intimately private - ignite, Easterly and all its inhabitants are thrown into the grips of an irrevocable transformation, and only the cunning will survive.

This may surprise a lot of people, but this is my first book by this author! I tried to read the first book in her Black Dagger Brotherhood series a while ago, as I know it's a very popular series, but I just couldn't get into it, so I stopped reading it! I was then emailed by the UK publisher and asked if I would like to review this book and participate in the UK Blog Tour for it! I, of course, said yes, as this book sounded completely different to this author's Black Dagger Brotherhood series! I then started my paperback as soon as I received it! This book took me a few days to read and it was very detailed! I thought it was amazing actually! I wasn't really sure what to expect from it, but I got a lot more than I bargained for, and I really enjoyed it! The plot focused on several different story-lines, but they all joined in a way! I loved this! The plot also developed at a really good pace and had me hooked! I didn't put it down until I had finished it! I loved everything about the plot! The two main characters were also amazing! Lizzie was one of the main female characters, and she had worked hard for the things she had! She worked for a very powerful and rich family, but she never let it go to her head and she dealt with a lot of snooty, demanding people that had too much money! Or so they thought ;) I loved Lizzie! I would probably never have the patience to do the job she did lol, but I respected her a lot for the job she did! Lizzie also stuck up for herself and was always there to help her love interest, which I loved about her! Lane was one of the main male characters, and he was seriously hot! He also had a lot on his plate in this book and he discovered a lot of secrets that had been hidden from him and his family! I really liked Lane! I felt really sorry for him because of the secrets he discovered, as they had a big impact on his family, but he was determined to try to fix things and make things right! I could also see that Lane had never stopped loving Lizzie, even though a lot had happened between them! This book was written from I think maybe five different point of views! It was written from Lizzie, Lane, Edward, Gin, and a few scenes were written from Sutton's point of views! I normally only like to read a book from two different point of views so that it's a bit easier for me to follow, but I was able to follow the five different point of views in this book really well! Two followed the same story-line and then the other three point of views followed their own story-lines! All the point of views entwined at certain points in the book though! I can't wait to read the next book in this series! I know I'm going to have to wait a while for it, but it's totally going to be worth it! I can't wait to continue Lane and Lizzie's story! The cover for this book suits is so well! It really shows the wealth and richness of the characters, which is a bit part of the plot! I love it! Big thank you to Piatkus for a paperback of The Bourbon Kings, and for having me on the UK Blog Tour!
