My Top Books of 2024!

Hey, guys! It's that time of year again where I share my favourite books of the year! So, here is my list with my top books of 2024! I loved all of these books a lot!

*All books are in no particular order!*

12. Locked and Loaded [McIntyre Search and Rescue 05] by April Wilson!

Micah Jackson's life is turned upside down when he's called in the middle of the night to tow the car of a young woman who's stranded on the side of the road in his small town of Bryce, Colorado. She has nowhere to go, so of course Micah offers her a safe place to spend the night. Just one night, until her car is fixed and she's back on the road, right? But nothing goes as planned, and the more time he spends with her, the more he realizes she's running from something. Something bad. Or, rather someone bad. And like the hero he is, Micah finds himself wanting to protect her from the threat looming over her.

11. The Hero [Game of Chance 03] by Susan Stoker!

Any soldier who gets out of the service with his life should be happy to leave danger behind. Though his army brothers are content running their new business in Maine, Kendric “Bob” Evans isn’t ready to give up the fight. He’s been supplementing his hours with covert rescue missions organized by the FBI. But his latest charge may be more than he bargained for.

Marlowe Kennedy is on a routine archaeology dig in Thailand when she’s arrested for drug trafficking. She has suspicions about the true culprit, but even when she’s rescued from prison, there’s nothing she can do about it without proof. Her protective bodyguard’s only objective is to keep her safe until they cross the border into friendly territory.

The best way to do that? Travel as man and wife.

After returning to Maine, as Bob and Marlowe navigate this treacherous terrain with the help of their friends, they face vengeful authorities, a vindictive frame job, and perhaps most important of all—turning their fake marriage into something real.

10. The Wastelander [Wastelander 01] by E.S. Luck!

The Old World is dead. Alone and starving, her only salvation is him.

Born in a secure compound amidst the ashes of a world long dead, Claire Ainsley knows her place in the world: work her assigned job, live with her assigned husband, and keep her head down and her mouth shut. She knows what every compound resident has been the world outside is a Wasteland, and the only thing more terrifying than leaving the compound is being forced to confront those who live outside—the ones left behind.

But her safe, contained life is destroyed when she narrowly survives an attack conceived by a conspiracy from within the compound itself. Only by fleeing into the terrifying Wasteland, a vast wilderness peopled by bloodthirsty, cannibalistic Wastelanders, can she escape a violent end at the hands of her fellow compound dwellers.

Captured by the very savages she feared, she is saved by John Madigan, a mysterious and capable survivor—and a Wastelander. She tries to deny the instant chemistry she feels with a man that is one moment terrifying, the next patient and caring, but eventually, neither of them are able to resist the blazing passion between them. But the Wasteland is harsh, and her time with John fleeting. As his own personal mission comes to an end, he must return to his ancestral homeland, leaving her with little choice but to learn to survive without the man whose protection is her only salvation in a harsh, uncompromising post-apocalyptic landscape.

The Wasteland of this world has not been kind to those unchosen.

9. Catch the Sun by Jennifer Hartmann!

"Kissing you feels like catching the sun…"

8. When Lies Unfold by RC Boldt!

In exchange for my life, I’m placed under his watchful eye. Day in and day out, he waits for me to betray my promise of silence.

The longer I stay in his world, the deeper I fall for the glimpses of the man beneath that handsome yet cunning exterior. The man whose possessive touch ignites a long-lost part of me.

But I should know better than to open my heart to a cold-blooded criminal with a laundry list of deadly sins and secrets. Especially when he has no idea who I really am.

Because when the lies unfold, he’ll discover I have a list of sins and secrets of my own.

7. Chasing the Wild [Crimson Ridge 01] by Elliott Rose!

What happens when you’re snowed in on a mountain ranch, with the one man you definitely should not be fantasizing about?
I’ve always done what was expected of me. Layla Birch, the good girl.
Forced to grow up too fast. To take care of everything myself. I had a plan.
Only, I didn’t count on him. Colton Wilder. The cowboy nearly twice my age.
He’s my dream man. One who takes care of me, gives me a job, and makes my pulse thud harder every time he comes near.
My ex-boyfriend’s father.
The nights are long and cold on top of this mountain. As the snow grows thicker and the tension builds between us, we’re both inching closer to a line we shouldn’t cross.
Each day, it grows harder to resist the man who looks at me with longing in his eyes.
It’s tempting to forget about being the good girl for once.
No one would find out. Would they?

6. Alone with You by Aly Martinez!

Pain trapped me in this house. Can love set me free?

Death had been chasing me my entire life. I survived the horrors of war, but it was the aftermath that truly destroyed me.

People called me a recluse, but the only time I didn’t feel like I was suffocating was inside that house.

For my daughter, I kept some semblance of normalcy by implementing a rigid routine. Once a week, I forced myself to walk to the diner at the end of the block—a ritual I despised but relied on as my last anchor to the real world.

Until the day a “Closed” sign on the door shattered my fragile existence. Worse, the new owner was the most haunting ghost from my past.

It had been years since I’d laid eyes on Gwendolyn Pierce. She hated me—and rightly so. But when a film crew arrived in town to dig into my past, she became my only ally.

With my secrets threatened, I leaned on Gwen, forging a connection neither of us could deny. But with a past as dark as ours, I feared it would eclipse any hope for a future.

I always said that when Death finally came for me, I would be ready, eager, and alone.
Always alone.

But for Gwen, maybe I could face the world again as long as it meant I could be alone—with her.

5. Until Then by Micalea Smeltzer!

I never thought I’d find myself craving the small-town life, but I’ve grown to hate LA and all that comes with it. When I get canceled after a celebrity interview goes terribly wrong, I put my life in the City of Angels on hold and hide out in Parkerville, Maine. My sister has made the small town her home, and my assistant lives there, too. So it seems like the most logical place to go. Until my assistant suggests I move in with her dad.

Her very hot, rugged dad.

Who may or may not hate me after I tried to hook my sister up with him. Because rather than falling for him, she fell for his son.

Oops.

It was an honest mistake.

I fully expect Derrick to tell me to find somewhere else to hunker down, but by some miracle, he agrees to let me stay in his spare bedroom, as long as I help out.

Easy enough, right?

4. Downpour [The Griffith Brothers 02] by Maggie Gates!

Ray
Rule #1 of almost dying: Make sure someone knows your passwords. It’s hard to cancel your phone plan if you’re dead.

Rule #2 of almost dying: Make sure your house is clean before you walk up the steps to the pearly gates. It makes selling off your life easier.

Back-up plans are for people who plan on losing.
All it took was eight seconds for me to win the biggest competition of my life, and one second to lose everything except that championship buckle.
I had left my family’s cattle ranch at eighteen with no intention of ever coming back for good.
Now I was back, stuck in a wheelchair with a beautiful disaster attempting to burn my house down.

Brooke
Rule #1 of trying to not get fired: Don’t piss off the grumpy bull rider.

Rule #2 of trying to not get fired: When you do get fired, keep your chin up. The grumpy bull rider was hot.

It was just a little fire. Tiny, even. But that didn’t change the fact that Ray Griffith didn’t want me anywhere near him.
But we came to an agreement: I ignore him, and he doesn’t fire me.
Easy, right? Not so much when we can’t keep our hands off each other.

3. King of Nothing by Aurora Rose Reynolds!

I met him when my ship was sinking, and I clung to him through the storm. Little did I know he needed me as much as I needed him.

The first time I saw Roman Dante King, he stuck out like an odd puzzle piece that got mixed up in the wrong box. It wasn’t his blue eyes in the dim light of the bar, the tattoos that covered his arms and hands, or even his arrogant personality. It was something else—something I couldn’t see—that told me he didn’t belong in our small beach town on the Oregon coast.

Elora Mazie Barlow reminded me of a hummingbird zipping from one flower to another, never stopping, never allowing anyone more than a glimpse before she was gone. Never letting anyone in… until me. Then she gave me her smiles that were more valuable than anything I ever owned and wrapped me in her peace without asking for anything in return.

Her tragic story sounded achingly familiar to my own.

Our connection is knotted up in loss. The journey we’re on together will eventually come to an end. But will we be able to untangle the mess of strings that have tied us together?

Will we even want to?

2. The Mindf*ck Series by S.T. Abby!

They took too much.
Left too little.
I had nothing to lose...until him.
*****************
I didn't expect him.
I didn't want to fall in love.
But I can't let him go.
Logan Bennett makes the world a safer place.
He's brilliant.
He's a hero.
He locks away the sick and depraved.
But while he's saving lives, I'm taking them. Collecting the debts that are owed to me.
Ten years ago, they took from me. They left me for dead.
They should have made sure I stayed dead.
Now I'm taking from them.
One name at a time.
I've trained for too long.
I've been patient.
I can't stop now.
Revenge is best served cold...
They never see me coming, until I paint their walls red.
Logan doesn't know how they hurt me. He doesn't know about the screams they ignored. He doesn't know how twisted that town really is.
He just knows people are dying.
He doesn't know he's in love with their killer.
No one suspects a dead girl.
And Logan doesn't suspect the girl in his bed.
They're looking for a monster.
Not a girl who loves red.
Not a girl in love.
I'm a faceless nightmare.
At least until I tell them the story they've pretended never happened.
But in the end, will Logan choose them? Or will we watch them burn together?

1. When He Reads to Me by T.L. Smith!

I loved him from the beginning.
In the middle.
But maybe not at the end.
His love for me was full of possibilities, hopes, and dreams a girl like me wasn’t accustomed to.
He was a nightmare that cracked and bled through my hands, and I stood there watching as it seeped into the ground.
Until him.
He put me back together.
Without even knowing he was doing so.
And he wasn’t even my husband.

Release Day Blitz: Oil & Water by Indie Sparks!

It’s not like I intended to get naked at the rehearsal dinner for my brother’s wedding.
In the parking lot.
With his best friend.
In my defense, he has a beard now. And I was soaking wet.

In our combined defense, we weren’t doing anything other than drying off. In further defense of my own actions, I was merely gazing at the pool, wishing I could go for a swim, when my brother’s lunatic best friend, Malcolm, ran up behind me and shoved me in. Hence, the need to dry off in the parking lot. The high beams that spotlighted us could hardly have been anticipated.

My brother has the perfect job, and he’s marrying the perfect woman. The wedding will also be perfect. As will the honeymoon and the immaculate offspring they will no doubt spawn to carry on the family tradition of normalcy.
I’m the misfit—a professional mermaid in a family full of traditionalists. And if I don’t get an audition with the pod of my dreams soon, I’ll have to rent out my tail to make my car note.
The last thing I have time for in my life right now is a man, especially Malcolm.

Okay, so he grew up and grew a beard. And being an olive oil broker might be a cool job. But he’s still that same obnoxious guy who was always hanging around our house, eating all my good snacks and making dumb jokes.
I mean, come on! The guy rides a skateboard to work!

How long can two misfits deny how well they fit together?

Blog Tour & Giveaway: Protected [Atlanta’s Finest 08] By Sharon C. Cooper!

Excerpt!

   God must hate me.
Why else would He open up doors for her to get her dream job, then drop Parker dead smack in the middle of her first real assignment? It wasn’t fair. Even more than that, she had to be near the man while he was looking like he had just stepped out of a GQ magazine photo shoot.
Sometime between last night, when he threatened her date, until now, he must have visited the barber shop. His low fade haircut looked fresh and showed off his natural waves, and his mustache and goatee were perfectly groomed.
Chelsey had always been drawn to dark chocolate men, and they didn’t come any finer than Parker Wilcox. The man was beautiful, and he had the body to go with it. He always wore his suits fitted, and they showed off his wide shoulders that tapered to his narrowed waist.
Tonight, though, everything about him was popping, including his muscular biceps pushing against the dark fabric. As her gaze took him in, a deep longing for him burrowed into her and landed dead smack into her chest.
   Damn him!
“You can not wear that,” Parker ground out, his words and tone jolting her out of her perusal of him. “This is a security assignment, not some…some party! You shouldn’t be going anyway until you’ve had more training.”
Chelsey stepped further into the kitchen, barely hanging on to her anger. “Clearly you have forgotten that I was once a cop. But why am I even talking to you? You’re not my boss, and in case no one told you, I belong on this detail!”
His long legs carried him across the room in three steps, and he stopped in front of her. She had opted for dressy wedge-heels since she could run better in them, and they added a few inches to her 5’8” height. Still Parker had a few inches on her. Between his gorgeous eyes that were boring into her, and his enticing woodsy scent, she lost herself in his presence. But then he opened his mouth.
“No one is going to take you seriously if you’re wearing that and claiming to be a security specialist. Every asshole in that place tonight will be pawing at you like you’re their next meal, and what are you going to do? Like you, Laz and I have a job to do, and we won’t be able to keep an eye on you while protecting our client.”
Chelsey gritted her teeth, refusing to let his words turn her into a screaming lunatic. But she was seriously tempted to knock him upside his big head with her handbag. The handbag that held one of her weapons. She had another strapped to her inner thigh with a garter holster that was well hidden but easy to reach.
“Parker, you don’t have to worry about me. Ever. I can take care of myself while also doing my job. So keep your focus on our client and worry about your own damn self.”
She wanted to ask him who was going to keep the lonely women attending the event from grabbing his gorgeous ass. Because no doubt he’d be luring all the honeys his way tonight. The man was too fine for his own good.
“And another thing, why do you even care?” she snapped. She wanted to add that he’d given up any right to anything about her, but she kept that thought to herself.
“Because…” His eyes blazed with anger as his chest heaved. “Because I love you, dammit.” He moved closer. Close enough to kiss, and Chelsey stilled. “And I care because if anything ever happened to you, it would kill me!” he roared and shoved past her before storming out of the room.

He walked away to protect her, but now he wants her back.

Personal security specialist Parker Wilcox should be dead. Instead, he’s been hiding in plain sight for years. But when a mishap threatens his cover, he’s terrified his past will bring danger to the lives of those he loves—especially Chelsey Bailey. The only way to protect her is to put distance between them, but how can he live without the only woman who owns his heart?

As a parole officer, Chelsey believes in second chances…for her parolees. Not for Parker—a man who claimed to love her but then dropped her without warning. While she’s trying to bury her pain in work, Parker comes back on the scene, begging to try again. The excuse he gives for abandoning her in the first place is ridiculous. There’s no way he’s some kind of cartel prince on the run from his murderous father. Right?

Parker will never have the life he desires with Chelsey if he doesn’t destroy his father, but will he survive this time around? And will he and Chelsey ever get to have the life they’ve been dreaming of?

Blog Tour & Giveaway: A Buckeye Falls Christmas [Buckeye Falls 06] by Libby Kay!

Excerpt!

Ginny kissed Max’s cheek, tasting his tears on her lips. “Max, honey. This rarely happens. C’mon, Henry’s going to be the lead in the Christmas pageant. He’s a tough kid, just like his father.” She punctuated her statement with another kiss.
Max coughed and wiped his eyes with the back of his hand. “Oh yeah, I’m a real macho man.”
“Yeah, because you know they’re my type.” Ginny theatrically rolled her eyes.
“I shudder to think of what your type is,” Max said, gesturing at his current state. His eyes were red, he was covered in dirt and dog kibble, and he probably could stand another few hours of sleep.
Ginny leaned back, tapping her chin. “Well, let’s see. I like a man who can take care of me and my children. Someone who can cook, like really well. And it would be nice if he was a small business owner and took care of my father like his own. Oh, and if he’s also best friends with my best friends, that would be perfect.” Ginny huffed and pulled herself to her feet. “Looks like that’s a pretty tall order.”
Max snatched Ginny’s hand and pulled her onto his lap. “Okay, Mrs. Sanchez. Point made.” He kissed his wife, relishing in the fact they were still together after all these years. Life wasn’t always perfect, but it was from where he sat. “I need to get to the diner and start working on the menu for Christmas.”
Ginny kissed him one more time before pulling back. “And I’m needed in the office.”
   “Love you, Gin.”
   “Love you more.”

On the first day of Christmas, Buckeye Falls gave to me…
A snow storm…
Uninvited dinner guests…
A Christmas pageant…
And a friends’ reunion dinner to warm your heart.

It’s been ten years since five couples found love in this charming small Ohio town. Families and careers have grown, but the love remains the same.

Max is hosting Christmas at the diner, a final sendoff before the beloved hangout gets a facelift. But the risk of a snow storm and a few uninvited guests threaten everyone’s plans. Will it be a Christmas to remember, or will their holiday get plowed away?

Revisit your favorite couples in this holiday novella, which includes favorite recipes from the series. Warning: this story will make you hungry and may cause uncontrollable swoons.

Book Blitz & Giveaway: Brian and Mina’s Holiday Hits by Kitty Thomas

Excerpt!

It’s after dark when we arrive at the Windsor Estate. The heavily guarded iron gate extends around Drake Windsor’s massive property which seems to go on for miles. I grip Brian’s arm and lean in to whisper in his ear as we walk along the well-lit path up to the front door.
   “What about weapons?” I whisper.
“No weapons,” he says. “They’ll pat us down and send us all through a metal detector inside.”
“Then how in the f**k are we going to do this? Are you planning to kill him with your bare hands?”
Brian shrugs. “I could. He’s too refined to get his own hands dirty. He’s old money.”
“What does he do? Besides hiring assassins to kill all his enemies.” You’d think Brian would have listed this man’s profession on the murder wall.
   “Oil magnate.”
“Is that even still a thing?”
   “Apparently,” he says.
“I thought you’d tell me he was in the tech industry.”
Brian laughs. “I said old money.”
“Fossil fuel. Checks out.” Dinosaurs are for sure old.
I stop talking as we get closer to the house. It’s so big, even the word mansion doesn’t quite cover it. The security detail are all big burly guys wearing suits and electronic ear pieces. They give us both a once over, their eyes staying on me a bit longer than is actually necessary.
The first one pats Brian down, and then goes for me, but Brian closes a tight grip over the man’s wrist.
His voice is low and calm when he speaks. “Elvin, I swear to every power living and dead that if you touch her, you will not survive to see your daughter’s first Christmas.”
The guard swallows hard. “I have orders…”
“You have metal detectors. You and I both know that’s the real security. This pat down business is just security theater—a display of Windsor’s power and nothing more. You think about whether it’s worth your life to participate in this charade.”
He nods. “Go on in, Mr. Sloan.” Then he nods at me, “Ma’am.”

“Be honest with me, Brian. Are we going on a cross-country killing spree?”

“I’d hardly call it a spree.”

Brian Sloane is a pure psychopathic monster… to everyone but Mina.

She was looking for a good man to scratch a particular itch but instead ended up bought by the violent enforcer of a submissive training house.

Against all odds, the villain became her hero. She was the light to his dark until the lights went out, and the darkness inside her came out to play.

Now they’re both killers, chasing the blood lust, running toward their demons, each hit job more dangerous than the last. From a twisted Easter hunt, to an explosive Fourth of July, from a deadly masquerade ball, to an even deadlier Krampus run, culminating in the Do or Die Valentine’s Day Kill that will either seal their doom or their happily ever after.

Do killers even deserve a happy ending?
