Blog Tour: Branded [Sinners 01] by Abi Ketner & Missy Kalicicki!

Publication date: 28th June 2013
Paperback edition: -
Source: Kindle
Rating: 5 stars
Synopsis: Fifty years ago the Commander came into power and murdered all who opposed him. In his warped mind, the seven deadly sins were the downfall of society. He created the Hole where sinners are branded according to their sins and might survive a few years. At best.
Now LUST wraps around my neck like blue fingers strangling me. I’ve been accused of a crime I didn’t commit and now the Hole is my new home.

Darkness. Death. Violence. Pain.

Now every day is a fight for
survival. But I won’t die. I won’t let them win.
The Hole can’t keep me. The Hole can’t break me.
I am more than my brand. I’m a fighter.
My name is Lexi Hamilton, and this is my story.

Favourite quote: "You're amazing just the way you are. There's not a single thing I would change about you. When you smile my entire world stops. All I see is you. I need you."

For a debut novel, this one really blew me away! I sometimes cringe when I read a debut novel as sometimes authors have to find comfort in writing, but with Branded I could tell that the authors felt passionate and comfortable while writing it! I had been wanting to read Branded since I first heard about it after one of the authors approached me about reading the first chapter! I normally don't like just reading the first few chapters of a book because then I'm even more desperate to read the whole thing! With Branded I wasn't sure what to expect as it didn't have a cover or a synopsis at that point, but I soon became addicted! Once I started reading this book, I couldn't stop so when I got an ARC of it I screamed! This book is not for the fainthearted! It's bloody and gory and full of suspense! It's definitely for someone who loves an adventure or for someone who loves discovering something new! The plot of Branded really blew me away! It was a fresh idea with new elements added and there was so much going on in it! I did cry several times during it as well! I knew that I was going to, but I tried so hard not too! It really hits you hard and it really will make your heart break! The suspense throughout this book really was mind-blowing as well! It felt like I was watching my favourite action film for the first time! You know, when your eyes are glued to the screen and you can't look away! Well, with Branded I was hooked from page one and I couldn't stop reading until I got to the last page! What I enjoyed about this book was that I found out things that I thought that I wasn't going too! I thought that some of it would have carried over to the next book, but that actually probably won't happen as secrets get revealed in this book and then resolved! The characters were also amazing! I couldn't help but feel sorry for Lexi as she had been through so much and then when she gets put in The Hole my heart broke for her! As I discovered her story I started to feel so much more for her! I connected with her the whole way through this book and that connection didn't break once! Cole was so hot! I loved that he was in nearly all the scenes and he had such a big role as he was my favourite male character! Cole would do anything for Lexi and you could see that everytime he was with her! It was so sweet, but in Lexi's world you really needed something beautiful and for me that was it! I am definitely going to read the next book in this series and I will probably be begging the authors to let me read any chapter from it! I saw the original cover for this book and I have to be honest and say that I adored that cover, but after reading Branded I can see how well the new cover suits it! Huge thank you to Abi and Missy for an ARC of Branded!

Blog Tour: The Star by C. Warner Thompson!

Publication date: 2nd June 2013
Paperback edition: 236 pages
Source: Kindle
Rating: 4 stars
Synopsis: Abbii had been afraid of the dark for four long years. She hated the eerie silence that filled the night.

She would often try to forget by closing her eyes at night, but she would always be met by dreams of Shadows that would attack her, dragging her into the Darkness. Most nights, she would simply lie there with her bedding wrapped tightly around her, hoping that she would drift off into a dreamless sleep.

Ever since that day four years ago, the dark had frightened her; she had thought it would be a curse throughout the whole of her life, but something changed when she met him.

The dark seemed to lose its power and the moon’s light brightened.

Her dreams didn’t stop; nightmares still stole her sleep, but there was always a figure of Light that would save her and allow her to wake.

He said the same thing every night in her dreams. Keep fighting, Abbii.

She thought that he was part of her imagination, someone that she had created to save herself, until she met him and was drawn into his bright hazel eyes.

His name was Nate.

I wasn't really sure what to expect from this book after I signed up for the Cover Reveal and was then asked if I would like to join the Blog Tour! It sounded good from the synopsis, but the synopsis also didn't give anything away, so I wasn't really sure! I was quite eager to find out the story behind the synopsis though! This book was really good! It impressed me, but I felt that it was missing something as well! I thought that it started a little slow and there was quite a lot in it, but I enjoyed it at the same time! The plot was pretty unique! I haven't really read anything like it before! I did find it a little confusing at some points, but as the story progressed I was able to make out certain things that helped me understand what I couldn't before! The plot did get a little weird for me at the end! I started to lose what was actually happening and I sort of started to skim over it because I lost a bit of interest as it didn't go in the direction that I thought it would! The characters were great and really impressed me! Abbii was someone who was slightly lost in her life! She was trying to find answers and she was determined to get them! Abbii discovered so much about herself during this book and she also discovered how important she was! I think that she handled learning all of this very well! She got a lot thrown at her in such a short space of time, but she took it all in her stride and she was determined to do something about it! Nate was the love interest of Abbii and he was so cute! I loved how protective he was of Abbii and how much he cared about her! A massive secret about Nate is revealed and the end of this book and I can honestly say that I didn't see it coming! It was an amazing twist! I liked that this book was written from Abbii and Nate's point of view as I loved getting to go into both of their heads! There were so many other characters in this book as well and they added so much to the story! I think that I heard that this book is book one of three books and I can say that I will probably read the rest of this series as The Star was an okay book, but the squeals probably won't be at the top of my TBR list! The cover did draw me to this book! I think it suits the book perfectly! You can see how much the cover suits the book after you have read it! Big thank you to Clemy for a copy of The Star and to Ann and Penelope for having me on the Blog Tour!

Author bio:

I was born in England in the West Midlands in 1991 where I am still currently living, growing up alongside one younger and three older brothers.

Books and writing was an interest that I began to develop from the first years of secondary school, and on my thirteenth birthday, I began to plan and design the idea to write a fantasy novel. I finished secondary school with high GCSE's and then went on into further education to study English and all aspects of art and design. After six years of writing, planning and overall editing of the book, it was successfully completed, containing over 82,000 words, and self published in the first week of 2011.

With high expectations in myself, I immediately began to write a second novel in the series, while keeping my art and design a part of the process. The achievement of completing the first novel 'Purest Light,' allowed the ideas of the second to flow much easier and it was completed by early 2012. As I was writing the third and final book, New Beginnings, at the same time, the series was finished by its publication in 2013.

Writing is now a part of my everyday and I have started on my newest project, The Star, which is also planned to be the first of three. Only time will tell.

I've always loved reading, it is a common known fact that I pretty much demolish a book a day. Expensive hobby, but a great one! I've dabbled with writing since the day I could actually write. So, it was only fitting that I had my first book published when I was 15.

If I'm not writing you would generally find me reading, trawling social networking sites and listening to music, I will pretty much listen to any kind of music but I have two favourites, country music has been with me since I was a little toddler so this is a massive favourite of mine. I also love to listen to movie scores, especially when I'm writing!

I currently live in Yorkshire with my husband.

Cover Reveal: Ascending the Veil [Piercing the Fold 03] by Venessa Kimball!

In Surfacing the Rim: Piercing the Fold, Book 2, an intersection between our galaxy and the Andromeda galaxy has been spurred at the hands of an enemy fellowship. With orders from its leader, Sondian guardian and Sam Crest opens a wormhole that traces through a black hole through the Andromeda galaxy and into another universe beyond ours.
What Jesca and the other Dobrian guardians do not realize is that the wormhole has pierced a barrier, a veil, that has successfully kept the beings of that universe from invading our world. Beings that have been considered mythical and fantastical since the beginning of time. Beings that symbolize the purest of evil and the purest of good. Beings that have been the product of the “illusions in reality” Jesca and the rest of the guardians have been tracking, dodging, and protecting humanity from for the past year.
To worsen the situation, Sam Crest attempts to take Jesca with him into the wormhole, but two of the most important men in Jesca’s life, Ezra Kahn and Nate Sera keep her from succumbing to it by sacrificing themselves. Their sacrifice protects her physically, but not mentally. Jesca is left broken in the arms of a man that she is beginning to fall for, Xander Crest; adopted son of Sam Crest.
Though Ezra’s and Nate’s sacrifice was noble, it was not enough to stop the global invasion and apocalyptical evolution the enemy fellowship intends to draw to our world. The fate of our world is bleak unless Jesca and the her fellowship of guardians can find a way for the human race to adapt, evolve, and survive amidst the invasion, as well as bring Nate and Ezra back from beyond the veil.
Ascending the Veil: Piercing the Fold, Book 3 takes you beyond our world and universe and back through the eyes of the characters in this series. Tragedies and blessings involving Jesca, Ezra, Nate, and Xander will be revealed, our favorite guardians of the Dobrian and Sondian fellowships will forge their paths in this universe and in another for the salvation of our world and each other, and heart-wrenching events will unfold when Jesca ascends the veil.

Author's Note:

The Piercing the Fold series is intended for Mature Young Adult and Adult readers due to the the paranormal and unorthodox scientific concepts addressed throughout. This series contains a rich mixture of the paranormal, science fiction, romance, adventure, and suspense.

Review: Forever Too Far [Too Far 03] by Abbi Glines!

Source: Kindle
Rating: 5 stars
Synopsis: Rush promised her forever... but promises can be broken.

Her love for Rush and desire to have a family keep her believing that they can find a way for this to work. Until she has to make the right decision for her and the baby. Even if it breaks her heart.

Can they find the forever that they both want or has it all just gone... too far?

Favourite quote: “How far is too far?” I asked.
“It’s all too far. I want you right here beside me… forever.”

This series has been a whirlwind! I wasn't expecting three books from it, but I'm happy with where the series has gone! I was glad that this was the last book, not in a bad way, but I felt like another book will be too much! It would be a good experience though after reading this book! I adored Forever Too Far! I can't put into words how much! I know that some people think that a third book was too much, but I have to disagree with those people and say that a third book was sort of necessary after what happened in the last book! The plot for this book was progressed on perfectly from where the last book left off from! It went at the perfect pace to keep me begging to read on and I also enjoyed that there were some twists in the story to keep me guessing what was going to happen next! I really enjoyed the plot! It had suspense in it which I wasn't really expecting, but loved at the same time! I thought that the full plot was the perfect end to the series and to Rush and Blaire's story! The characters have changed so much from the first book! I still loved them though! Blaire has went through so many changes both emotionally and physically since I first met her in Fallen Too Far! She has grown so much and I couldn't be happier with how she turned out! She also had a thicker skin in this book compared to the last book which I loved! Rush has kind of lost his sexy attitude that attracted me to him in the first book and in this book he was a dotting husband and father! I wasn't really expecting him to change as much, but I guess that what he and Blaire have went through has made him grow up! He will forever stay hot and I will forever have a Rush Crush on him though! I can say that I adored him for how protective he was of Blaire in this book! I also enjoyed that Forever Too Far was written from Blaire and Rush's point of view as I thought that it added to the story and I loved getting to go inside both of their heads! A few new characters were also introduced in this book and I know that one character will definitely be in another book which I am super excited about! I'm sad that this series has finished now, but I will definitely continue reading any book by Abbi Glines and also I'm sure that Blaire and Rush will appear in a couple of other books based on characters from this series! The cover is so hot, but I don't really think that it suits what happens in the book! I don't want to give away spoilers for anyone who hasn't read the full series yet, but I think Blaire is missing something huge!

But that changes when she meets Asher Morgan. He’s gorgeous and mysterious and is the only person Ember can't sense death from. But the closer they get, the more Ember realizes that Asher is keeping secrets from her.

When unexplained deaths begin to surface in her town, Ember questions why she can’t see Asher's death and what it is he’s hiding from her.

I remember originally reading an ARC of the Young Adult version of this book and finding it a bit confusing but still loving it, so I was quite excited when I heard that Jessica was bringing out a New Adult version of Ember! I felt better re-reading this book as I didn't really enjoy it as much as I could have done the first time round! Re-reading this book made me love it even more! The plot was the exact same as the Young Adult version only with some sexy scenes added! The sexy scenes were off the hook! They were so hot and they added something to the book that was missing from the Young Adult version! I also found that they made the book even better! I loved the extra scenes that were added as well! They made me enjoy the book more and be able to understand it better! The plot still focused on Ember as she was learning about her abilities and about her finding out who she could trust with her secrets and to help her with her abilities! I really enjoyed the plot! It was slightly confusing at times, but I don't normally read books were death and the Grim Reaper play a part so I think that might have been why I was confused with some of the plot! The characters were still amazing! Ember was obviously still the main character and I felt like I connected with her more in this book than what I did the Young Adult version! I thought that I was able to understand her more and also her abilities! Ember was sexier in this book! I felt like she had more confidence in herself, but she was still slightly shy at the same time and I adored her with Asher! Asher was just as hot as he was in the Young Adult version! I couldn't get enough of him! I loved how protective he was of Ember and what he did for Raven! Cameron in this book was sort of creepy lol! I think I actually said that he was a little creepy in my review for the Young Adult version, but I guess some things never change lol! I liked that his character was still the same and that he was still hot! Just not as hot as Asher! The love triangle aspect was still in this book between Ember, Asher and Cameron and with the sexy twists added it made it even hotter! I knew that I was going to continue reading this series after reading the Young Adult version and I know that the second book isn't out yet for the Young Adult series so I am definitely looking forward to reading both versions! I hope Jessica continues to write both series' or just continues one of them as I am really enjoying this series! The cover is stunning! It suits the book so much and it fits the Young Adult cover as well! Big thank you to Shh Mom's Reading for having me on the Blog Tour!

She promised she would...and she’s done her best over the past seven years with every choice, with every word, with every action.

Livie walks into Princeton with a solid plan, and she’s dead set on delivering on it: Rock her classes, set herself up for medical school, and meet a good, respectable guy that she’s going to someday marry. What isn’t part of her plan are Jell-O shots, a lovable, party animal roommate she can’t say ‘no’ to, and Ashton, the gorgeous captain of the men’s rowing team. Definitely him. He’s an arrogant ass who makes Livie’s usually non-existent temper flare and everything she doesn’t want in a guy. Worse, he’s best friends and roommates with Connor, who happens to fits Livie’s criteria perfectly. So why does she keep thinking about Ashton?

As Livie finds herself facing mediocre grades, career aspirations she no longer thinks she can handle, and feelings for Ashton that she shouldn’t have, she’s forced to let go of her last promise to her father and, with it, the only identity that she knows.

Favourite quote: "Because you're not just a one-night girl, Irish." Leaning in to place a kiss on my jawline, he whispers, "You're my forever girl."

I absolutely fell in love with Ten Tiny Breaths so I was really looking forward to reading Livie's story in this book! There was a stage where I was actually going to take a break from this book after a few chapters as I felt that it wasn't living up to my expectations from the first book, but I sat down one night and read the rest of it in one sitting! I got to a stage in the book where I fell in love with it! It started to blow me away! The plot of this book was broken, but beautiful! There were these two characters who had both been through so much, but together they help mend each other and show each other that they are both amazing characters! I found the plot a little slow to start off with, but eventually it sped up and I couldn't get through it fast enough! It just kept getting better and better and I found myself memorised by it! The characters also just blew me away! Livie was the main character and after seeing her in Ten Tiny Breaths I was dying to read her story! I loved her in this book! She did something that I frown upon, but I admired her that much that I could see past it! I think she was quite a witty character and at times she was very strong! Ashton was one of the love interests of Livie and he really surprised me! I thought that he was going to be a complete douche to Livie, but he was actually perfect for her! I thought that he helped Livie so much and at the same time Livie was helping him! He had been through a lot and I felt so sorry for him so I loved that Livie was the one to save him! There was a love triangle in this book between Livie, Ashton and Connor! I was expecting a love triangle as the synopsis tells you that before you start reading! I really enjoyed this love triangle! I didn't think that I was going to enjoy it as much as I did! I was Team Ashton, but I respected Connor so much that at certain points of the book I was stuck between choosing which side I was on! I also loved that characters from the first book were in this book and my favourites were in it as well! I'm not sure if there is going to be another book to this series as Livie and Kacey have both had their stories told, but if there is another book then I will definitely be reading it! Ten Tiny Breaths and now, One Tiny Lie have both been absolutely amazing books! The cover for this book is beautiful! It represents the book brilliantly and I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it! I also didn't realise how well the title suited this book until after I read it! It suits is so much more than I realised! Big thank you to Netgalley for an ARC of One Tiny Lie!
