Blog Tour & Giveaway: The Forgotten Ones [The Danaan Trilogy 01] by Laura Howard!

Publication date: 15th May 2013
Paperback edition: 177 pages
Source: Kindle
Rating: 5 stars
Synopsis: Allison O'Malley's plan is to go to grad school so she can get a good job and take care of her schizophrenic mother. She has carefully closed herself off from everything else, including a relationship with Ethan, who she's been in love with for as long as she can remember.

What is definitely not part of the plan is the return of her long-lost father, who claims he can bring Allison's mother back from the dark place her mind has gone. Allison doesn't trust her father, so why would she believe his stories about a long forgotten Irish people, the Tuatha de Danaan? But truths have a way of revealing themselves. Secrets will eventually surface. And Allison must learn to set aside her plan and work with her father if there is even a small chance it could restore her mother's sanity.

I had been dying to read this book as soon as I heard about it! The cover sealed the deal with me as soon as I saw it and then when I saw a Blog Tour for it in one of my favourite tour hosts groups then I quickly signed up for it! The plot of this book sort of reminded me of the Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa but in a way it was completely different! I loved the plot! I normally don't really like books that are as unique as this one was, but The Forgotten Ones really blew me away! The plot went at the perfect pace and there was enough suspense in it to keep me going for the whole book! I couldn't put it down! The plot went a little differently to what I was expecting! I had some ideas about it once I started reading it, but I was soon proven wrong by different twists and turns! I was expecting a bit of romance in the plot, but there wasn't really any! There was the hint of romance, but nothing solid! I normally don't like books with such little romance, but there was so much going on in this plot that I didn't really mind! I do hope that there is more romance in the next book though! The characters were amazing and I thoroughly enjoyed them! Allison was the main character and I adored her! I loved her personality and how much I connected with her! I felt sorry for Allison for how hard it was for her to cope with her mum! It must have been so hard for her, but she continued to be strong and she grew stronger as the book progressed! I would say that there was the start of a love triangle in this book between Allison, Ethan and Aodhan, but there wasn't a lot of scenes with Ethan and Aodhan so I'm not sure if it is going to be a love triangle or not, but I definitely get that vibe! Ethan and Aodhan were probably in this book about the same amount of times! They weren't really in it a lot so I can't pick a side just yet! I did enjoy both of their characters though! I do have to say that as there were quite a lot of characters with unique names I found it a little difficult to remember who each of them were! I had to pay close attention to each characters name and also their part in the story but once I got used to each characters name I found this book a bit easier to read! I originally thought that this book was a standalone but no way on this Earth can it be! There has got to be another book after that cliff-hanger! I can say that I will be eagerly anticipating it's release! The cover is also stunning! As soon as I saw it I knew I wanted to read the story behind it! Big thank you to Laura for an ARC of The Forgotten Ones and to Amber for having me on the Blog Tour!

Author bio:

Laura Howard lives in New Hampshire with her husband and four children. Her obsession with books began at the age of 6 when she got her first library card. Nancy Drew, Sweet Valley High and other girly novels were routinely devoured in single sittings. Books took a backseat to diapers when she had her first child. It wasn’t until the release of a little novel called Twilight, 8 years later, that she rediscovered her love of fiction. Soon after, her own characters began to make themselves known. The Forgotten Ones is her first published novel.
