Exclusive Excerpt: Beauty in the Ashes [Beautifully Broken 01] by Micalea Smeltzer!

A slow smile spread across my face as I pulled my iPod from my purse and placed it on the docking system.
I knew it was horrible of me to be looking for ways to torment my neighbor, but I couldn’t resist the free entertainment.
I should’ve probably invested in a TV. Instead, I flicked through my songs settling on one by Evanescence. I turned the volume up as loud as it would go, and started dancing around wildly, shaking my ass, as I sang along at the top of my lungs.
   He liked silence.
   I liked noise.
Messing with Caelan was wrong, but I couldn’t resist. He got so angry, and I…well, I liked to push people.
I knew there was probably a lot more to Caelan’s behavior than I or anyone else knew.
I was sure he had a really interesting story—everybody does, just like Daphne said.
For now though, I wanted to mess with him.
I wanted to make him angry.
I wanted to see that fire in his eyes.
Something about him called to me, drawing me in.
I didn’t understand what it was about him.
   Maybe his brokenness.
I stopped dancing and stood still in my kitchen.
What the hell was I doing?
Was I flirting with my neighbor?
Was this some kind of sick foreplay?
I scrambled to turn down the music—analyzing my own behavior—but I didn’t get it turned down in time.
He was pounding on my door, and from the sounds of those knocks he was livid.
   Shit.
   What had I done?
I forced myself to open the door and pretend that I wasn’t internally freaking out over my thoughts.
“I thought we had discussed this,” his voice was as icy as his eyes as he glared at me, “you need to keep the noise down. Since you didn’t heed my warning, it looks like I get to shut you up.”
I found my back pushed roughly against the brick wall. One of his hands entwined with mine, pinning it beside my head, while he braced the other on the wall above my head. I was affectively caged in with nowhere to go.
My eyes closed as I found myself unconsciously cowering to his domineering ways. My hair fell over my left shoulder and a few strands tumbled forward in an effort to hide my face.
My heart was beating wildly in my chest, threatening to break free, but my ribs kept it caged.
His sudden movements and overall officious way had surprised me.
   “Are you scared, Sutton?”
My eyes popped open, my mouth falling a bit with shock.
“No,” I answered with a challenging smirk.
Caelan Gregory didn’t scare me. Not the way he thought at least.

Some stories are a fairytale...but this isn't one.

Caelan Gregory’s life fell apart the night he went home and opened the door to find his whole family murdered. Since then, his life has held no meaning. He’s angry. He’s bitter. He’s barely human anymore. There’s nothing left to remind him of the straight A student, and football quarterback he once was…but he wasn’t a good person then, and he’s certainly not a good person now. He’s retreated into a world where all that exists is numbness and his passion for painting.

When Sutton Hale moves into the apartment across the hall from Caelan she’s not prepared for her reaction to him. Something in his broken blue eyes calls to her—after all she’s always had an irrational need to fix everything.

But Caelan doesn’t do relationships or feelings. He does drugs and alcohol. However, he can’t ignore his desire to get to know the raven-haired woman across the hall.

Two broken souls trying to mend one another.

But not everything can be fixed.

In the end, Caelan and Sutton will have to learn that there is beauty in the ashes.

Paperback edition: 304 pages
Source: Kindle
Rating: 5 stars

Synopsis: Music has the power to heal, but not all broken hearts can be mended.

After moving past her painful breakup with Xander years ago, Ivy was poised to become the next big name in music…when suddenly she withdrew from the limelight—the same day she announced her engagement to her controlling agent, Damon Wolf.

Xander knows he should keep his distance. But once they’re on the road, he can’t resist pursuing her for a second chance. Yet a jealous Damon can’t let her go—and he’s keeping dangerous secrets that could destroy them all.

When the three of them come together, everything falls apart. But if Xander and Ivy can hold tight to the bond that connects them, they just might have a chance to reclaim the powerful love they thought they had lost forever.

Favourite quote: "If you love someone, set them free. If they come back, they're yours."

I was seriously excited to read this book! I'm a big fan of the series and I couldn't wait to read Xander's story! I do have to admit that I started my ARC of this book months ago and it took me ages to read! It wasn't that I wasn't enjoying the book, but I put the book down one night and then I got so caught up in other books that I forgot about it! I did remember what happened in it though and when I started reading again, I was hooked! The plot of this book was amazing! I thoroughly enjoyed it! There were also twist and turns added into the plot that I didn't see coming! The plot developed at the perfect pace to keep me wanting to read on and find out what was going to happen next! There were also plenty of sexy scenes in the plot too! And I mean sexy ;) The characters were amazing! Xander was the main male character and he was so hot! Xander was introduced in one of the other books in this series and he was a secondary character! This book was his story and I loved getting to know Xander more! Xander had always intrigued me in the other books too! I just adored Xander! There were layers to him, and I felt like the layers were peeled away as the story unfolded! Xander was also told some pretty upsetting news in this book and my heart went out to him! I don't know what I would have did it I was ever put in the situation he was in! It did rock Xander, but he used what he was told to his advantage, which I loved! Ivy was the main female character and she was just amazing! I had so much respect for her! There were certain times in this book where I wondered why Ivy made the decisions she did, but then I found out her reasons! I could see that every decision she made was to protect Xander and his band! This showed me just how far and how much she was willing and did give to protect Xander! It made me love Ivy even more because it showed what kind of person she was! I loved that this book was written from both Xander and Ivy's point of views! It really helped me connect with them more and I loved getting to see their love for each other through both of their eyes! I also adored that nearly all the characters from the other books in this series where in this book a lot! I'm really excited to read the next book in this series! I know that it's not going to be about Xander and Ivy, because the ending of this book was absolutely beautiful, but I'm sure they'll make appearances in it! The cover for this book is absolutely stunning! I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it! I love how well it suits the other covers in the series too! Big thank you to Kim for an ARC of Mended and also for having me on her Blog Tour!

Favourite quote: "All we have is today. Yesterday is the past, and we aren't guaranteed tomorrow, so live your life for today."

I was so, so excited to read this book! I adored the first two books, and although this book wasn't about the same characters, it made me even desperate for it because it was about a character that really intrigued me in the first books! The plot of this book was pretty different to what happens in the other books! I know it was about a different character, but I was kinda expecting it to be a bit similar lol! I adored it though because I was completely engrossed in it while I was reading it! I loved the plot's development and it also had plenty, and I mean plenty, of sexy scenes in it! The plot was different to what I was expecting, but I completely fell in love with it and I had a hard time putting it down! It was written amazingly too and there was always something happening to keep me wanting to read on! The characters were amazing! Sam was the main character and she's introduced in the first book in this series and plays quite a big role in both the first and second book! Sam really intrigued me in the other books in this series because I felt like she was hiding something and she had a story to tell! I'm really happy she got the chance to tell her story! My heart went out to Sam when I found out why she acted the way she did! Nobody should have to go through what she did and I could see how much it had affected her! Sam was an amazing character though and she just blew me away in this book! I just absolutely adored her! Mark was the love interest of Sam and I'm not sure if he was introduced in one of the other books in this series, but I think he was! I just loved Mark! I loved how he was protective, but he sort of knew where to draw the line on how protective he had to be of Sam! I also loved that Mark let his and Sam's relationship progress at her pace! It was definitely the right thing to do after what Sam had been through! Mark was such an interesting character and he was so hot! Damien has some stiff competition lol! I loved that Allison and Damien from the first two books were back in this book! I thought that they were going to be, but I have to be honest and say that they were in this book a lot more than I was expecting them to be, which I adored! Seeing Allison and Damien's relationship develop even further was so cute as well! The ending of this book was so beautiful! I was nearly in tears because of how beautiful it was! It really showed how far Sam had come as a person and also how far her relationship with Mark had come! I'm really sad that this is the last book in the series! I've loved every minute of reading this series and it's been such a wonderful ride! The cover for this book is stunning! I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it! I love how well it suits the other books covers too! Big thank you to Kristin for a copy of Promise Me and to Book Plug Promotions for having me on the Blog Tour!

Blog Tour & Giveaway: Intercepting Love [Second Chances 05] by L.P. Dover!

Publication date: 25th May 2014
Paperback edition: -
Source: Kindle
Rating: 5 stars
Synopsis: Both have what she wants … but only one has what she needs.

Working with professional athletes and helping them recover from their injuries has always been Kate Townsend’s dream, but after an accident left her scarred and heartbroken years ago she refuses to let what happened in her past happen again. Staying focused is the key, as well as not letting her feelings interfere with her job … no matter the circumstances. All of that is easier said than done when not only one, but two men crave her healing touch, igniting every single desire she’s denied herself for so long.

Cooper Davis, NFL’s star quarterback and most eligible bachelor, packs up and leaves his home to move across the states to the East Coast after an injury results in the embarrassing trade to another team. Bitter from the pain, he deals with his problems through drugs and alcohol—almost ruining his football career—until he meets the one woman who makes him want to feel; the same woman who refuses to give up on him no matter how many times he screws up. He has to have her, and he’s not going to stop until he makes her his. Especially, now that someone else threatens to take her away.

Motocross champion and local bad boy Luke Collins never takes no for an answer. For the past four months he’s used his charms to get what he wants, and now he’s so close to getting the girl of his dreams … if she’ll give in just once. One time is all he needs, and he’s never been known to fail, but he’s also never had to fight for a woman’s affections. Only one man will win their way into Kate’s heart, but which one will intercept the other and take what they want? Which one will she choose?

I just adore this series and I always look forward to the next book! I was really excited about this book when I heard whose book it was going to be because both main characters really intrigued me when they made appearances in the previous books! The plot of this book was amazing! There were a few times where the plot did slow down, but then it would start to build again! There was also a bit of suspense in this book, but I felt it was over too quickly lol! I would have loved it if more had happened to make the suspense build more! I really enjoyed it though and there were plenty of hot scenes too, which I loved! I also couldn't put this book down until I had finished it! I was really drawn into the plot and the characters! The characters were amazing! Kate was the main female character and she was such a loveable person! There was something about her that just made me love her and connect with her! I have to admit though that I didn't make the connection that Kate was actually in one of the previous books in this series until it was mentioned in this book lol! I recognised the scene as soon as it was mentioned though! My heart also broke for Kate in this book as well! Something devastating happened that changed the way she was and I cried so much when everything was revealed! It really showed how strong Kate was though and it showed what she had been through! Cooper was the main male character and also the main love interest of Kate! Cooper was introduced in the third book in this series, but he was only in it for a short time! I loved Cooper! He was so hot and I loved how protective he was of Kate! I could see how strong his feelings for her where! Cooper had a few secrets of his own in this book and I didn't know what was going to happen when they revealed! I was really happy with the outcome of it all though and I liked that Cooper's secret stirred things up a bit! I loved that this book was written from both Kate and Cooper's point of views! It helped me connect with both characters more and I loved getting to see their feelings for each other develop through both of their eyes! There was a love triangle in this book, but the synopsis tells you there's going to be! The love triangle was between Kate, Cooper and Luke! I was Team Cooper from page one, but I did like Luke! What I loved about the love triangle was that it wasn't the main focus of the story! There was so much more going on and I liked that the love triangle didn't overshadow that! It did add a lot to the plot though! I'm really excited to read the next book in this series! It's going to be about a character whose story I can't wait to read, so I'm excited! The cover for this book is absolutely stunning! It suits the other covers perfectly and I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it! Big thank you to L.P. Dover for an ARC of Intercepting Love and to Enticing Journey Book Promotions for having me on the Blog Tour!

Blog Tour & Giveaway: Taint [Sexual Education 01] by S.L. Jennings!

Right now, you’re probably asking yourself two things:
Who am I?
And, what the hell are you doing here?

Let’s start with the most obvious question, shall we?

You’re here, ladies, because you can’t f*ck.

Oh, stop it. Don’t cringe. No one under the age of 80 clutches their pearls.
You might as well get used to it, because for the next six weeks, you’re going to hear that word a lot. And you’re going to say it a lot.
Go ahead, try it out on your tongue.
F*ck. F***ck.

Ok, good. Now where were we?

If you enrolled yourself in this program then you are wholly aware that you’re a lousy lay. Good for you. Admitting it is half the battle.

For those of you that have been sent here by your husband or significant other, dry your tears and get over it. You’ve been given a gift, ladies. The gift of mind-blowing, wall-climbing, multiple-orgasm-inducing sex. You have the opportunity to f*ck like a porn star. And I guarantee, you will when I’m done with you.

And who am I?

Well, for the next six weeks, I will be your lover, your teacher, your best friend, and your worst enemy. Your every-f*cking-thing. I’m the one who is going to save your relationship and your sex life.

I am Justice Drake.
And I turn housewives into whores.

Now…who’s first?

Blog Tour & Giveaway: Tryst [Take It Off 08] by Cambria Hebert!

Publication date: 16th May 2014
Paperback edition: -
Source: Kindle
Rating: 5 stars
Synopsis: Sometimes all a girl needs is a little fling...

Talie Ronson needs a vacation.

 From life.

Since she caught her cheating, loser husband in bed with his assistant, her life has been on a steady spiral—right into hell. Her car’s a junker, her job sucks, and her perfect, gorgeous sister likes to brag about her wonderful life every time they “do” lunch. In an effort to salvage what’s left of her life and her sanity, she takes the advice of her kooky best friend and takes off to Topsail Island. A week at the beach, alone, is exactly what she needs to recharge, regroup, and relax.

Only, her alone time is about to get derailed.

Gavin Palmer’s favorite activity is walking around in his boxers and eating junk food. He and his neighbors have an understanding. They stay out of his business and he stays out of theirs. He lives at the beach, not for vacation, but for isolation. He’s had enough of people to last him a lifetime.

Gavin’s isolation is interrupted when his normally quiet neighbor starts disturbing his peace. He stomps across the sand to give the guy a piece of his mind… only it isn’t a guy.

It’s Talie.

She’s maddening, nosy, and talks too much.

But she’s hot and her bedroom eyes have him thinking maybe he’s had enough solitude. Maybe a week of company is exactly what he needs. Maybe what they both need is a no-strings-attached tryst.

I'm a huge, huge fan of this series and I'm always desperate for the next book! Tryst was no exception and it was a book that I couldn't wait to read! I was so stoked when I got my ARC! This book was absolutely amazing! I wouldn't say it's my favourite of the series, but I'm not sure I even have a favourite book in this series because all of them are amazing! The plot of this book didn't have a suspenseful theme to it like a few other books in this series do! It was sort of about the two characters realising what's important in life and learning how to move on and be happy! I have to admit that there were a few suspenseful scenes in this book, but I think I would have enjoyed this book more if there was more suspense in it! I really enjoyed the plot and its development though! There were also some twists and turns added into the plot as well! Plus, there were plenty of sexy scenes that kept me hooked! I mean, who doesn't love sexy scenes, right? ;) The characters were amazing! Talie was the main female character and she was so clumsy! I actually feared for her life at some points in this book lol! I loved Talie's clumsiness because we're all a bit clumsy and it helped me connect with her! This book kinda started off with a bit of a bang for Talie and I could completely understand why she acted the way she did! I would have acted the exact same way! Talie was just such an amazing character, had a kick-ass personality and reacted the exact same way I would have in the situations she was placed in! I loved her! Gavin was the main male character and he was so freaking hot! He was also kind of an isolated character, but you find out why as this book progresses! I adored Gavin! I understood why he was so isolated and my heart went out to him when I found out his story! I could see how much it had affected him and he was left a heart-broken guy! Well, until Talie stumbled along lol! Gavin came quite a long way in this book though! He let himself go as the book progressed and I got to see a more laid back side to him! Gavin made such a hot couple with Talie too! I loved the sexual tension between the two of them! I was expecting this book to be written from both Talie and Gavin's point of views, but it kinda wasn't! It was written mostly from Talie's, but Gavin did get a few moments written from his point of view, which was pretty awesome! I loved that the author did this! I can't wait to read the next book in this series! I think I've said this at the end of my review for every book in this series, but the series is just so freaking amazing! The cover for this book is so hot! I just love it and I also love how well it suits the other covers in the series! Big thank you to Cambria for an ARC of Tryst and to Enticing Book Journey Promotions for having me on the Blog Tour!

I was so excited about this book when I first heard about it! I had pretty high expectations for it, but I have to be honest and say that this book didn't entirely live up to my expectations! It was so close, but there were just a few things in it that didn't make it live up to my expectations! The plot of this book was really good! I really enjoyed it! I loved its development and the growing relationship between the two main characters! There were also quite a few pretty hot scenes in this book! I wasn't sure if this book was going to have really explicit hot scenes in it, but I'm so happy it did! I have to say though that while I enjoyed the plot, I felt like there were quite a few scenes that were dragged on for too long and I found myself skimming through them to try and get through them a bit faster! Nothing really big happened throughout this book either that made me desperate to read on! There were a few scenes that made me desperate to read on near the end of the book though! Those are really my only complaints! Apart from that, I really enjoyed this book and its plot! The characters were great! I connected really well with them! Brianne 'Bree' was the main female character and I just loved her passion and her personality! She reacted the same way I would have in situations, which helped me connect with her more! I also loved the way Bree was with her brother, Liam! I could see that she had complete unconditional love for him and that she would do absolutely anything for him! Bree was just such a normal person that was always there to help her family out and she always put her family first! I really admired that about her! Drew was the main male character and he was so hot! Drew was hiding a secret in this book and it takes until about 80% through this book for his secret to be revealed! I won't tell you his secret lol, but Drew was a character that really intrigued me and I wanted to find out more about him as this book developed! I could see how much he valued his career and how far he had come with it! I also adored him with Bree! I could see that he had strong feelings for her! I really enjoyed reading this book from both Bree and Drew's point of views! I was kind of expecting this book to be written that way from the synopsis and I really enjoyed it! I thought that this book was a standalone when I first heard about it, but I've just discovered it's part of a series! The ending of this book was quite the cliff-hanger too, so I'm really happy there's going to be another book! I can't wait for it to release! The cover for this book is so pretty and pretty hot! I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it too! I also love how well the models suit the characters of Bree and Drew! Big thank you to Stacey for an ARC of Totaled and to ACS Tours for having me on the Blog Tour!

Author bio:

I am a mother to a beautiful five year old daughter and a wife to my best friend. Being a labor and delivery nurse three nights a week pays the bills but I have recently decided to take my hobby of writing to the next level. Living in Florida where I was born and raised allows me to hear the waves and stick my toes in the sand whenever I want, which is vital to my emotional well-being. Completely and absolutely obsessed with good music, the lifeline to my creativity, I cannot and will not write without it. Some things that I appreciate are honesty but not cruelty, an unapologetic sense of humor, being able to make any situation fun, often dancing like no one is watching, and a good cup of coffee with enough creamer to make it blonde.

Being an astute people watcher with a judgmental mind gives me constant inspiration for my stories. My characters, like many authors, are conceived from a hodgepodge of actual people in my life, unique personality traits, real world encounters, and conversations that I have directly taken part in. Totaled is my debut novel with many more to come.

Cover Reveal: Beauty in the Ashes [Beautifully Broken 01] by Micalea Smeltzer!
