Blog Tour & Giveaway: Creatura by Nely Cab!

Publication date: 6th June 2011
Paperback edition: 308 pages

Source: Kindle
Rating: 4.5 stars
Synopsis: Isis can control her dreams. Or she could—until recently. The creature in her nightmares has been haunting her for months. As if being dumped wasn’t bad enough, now she dreads going to sleep. She decides to confront the creature and win back some of her peace; only, she finds that he’s not a monster and he’s not a dream.

A sacrifice for love, a shocking discovery and a jealous ex-boyfriend blur the lines between reality and dreams, making it hard to tell who the real monsters are.

Who would’ve known…that sometimes love is lethal?

I had heard a little bit about this book before I joined the Blog Tour for it, but I hadn't heard a lot, so before I started reading I quickly scanned over some reviews to see if it was my kind of book and Creatura sounded amazing, so I was really excited to read it! I'm so happy that I took the risk of doing a review for the Blog Tour as it definitely paid off! This book blew me away! I didn't expect quite so much from it! The plot was unique and had a lot of potential! It was explained really well  that I didn't get confused and normally books like Creatura confuse me a little! The plot went at a good pace and it kept me interested! It also just kept getting better and better and I loved the twists that were thrown in! They changed everything! The plot did get a little strange at some places, but I think I found it strange because I haven't really read a lot of books like this one! It was really unique! The characters were amazing! Isis was the main character and she was such a likeable person! I connected with her instantly! She was brave and she went through quite a lot in this book! Isis went through some changes in this book, but in the next book I think she will go through tremendous changes! Creatura was the start of Isis's journey and I got just a taste of what to expect! David was the love interest of Isis and he wasn't like a lot of other male characters that I've read about! He was polite and well-spoken, but he also had a hot, protective side that came out at several points in this book! He went through a lot of emotional changes in this book as well and I loved how he handled these changes! There were also a lot of other characters in this book and they all added so much to the story! There were some good characters and some bad characters, but they were all equally amazing! The ending of this book was so unexpected! I did think that this book was a standalone, but after that ending there is absolutely no way it's a standalone! I actually kept flicking through expecting more pages and there wasn't! I'm really looking forward to the next book in this series and seeing where the characters and the plot goes! The new cover got revealed just a couple of days before I actually started reading this book and I'm completely in love with it! I think it suits the book a lot better than the original cover! Big thank you to Nely for a n ARC of Creatura and to Amber for having me on the Blog Tour!

Blog Tour & Giveaway: Love Square [Love Square 01] by Jessica Ingro!

Publication date: 19th July 2013
Paperback edition: -
Source: Kindle
Rating: 4 stars

Synopsis: A love triangle gone bad...

He was the one guy I couldn't get enough of. One look from him would make me melt. He was the one I always wanted to love me, but always seemed so far away. Now he stands before me and he's turning my world upside down.

At one time I would have done anything to be close to him. But will that anything include betraying the man I pledged myself to and that loves me faithfully?

Samantha Monroe had it all. Or at least everyone thought she did. A career on the rise, a gorgeous husband, great friends and a beautiful home. So why does she feel so alone and empty? When she reconnects with an old flame, lines are tested and compromises made in a quest for happiness.

Jacob Matthews always wondered what happened to Sam Monroe. When fate brings them together after all these years, he can't help but wonder if its meant to be. But when he meets his perfect woman, there is no doubt in his mind she's his soul mate. Will the search for happiness cost them everything or will their love square show them what really matters?

*My review may contain minor spoilers!*

I had been really looking forward to reading this book for a while after the author contacted me for a review and then I signed up for the Blog Tour and got on it! I was a little let down with this book, but from the synopsis it isn't normally a book that I would pick up on my own as it obviously says what's going to happen and what it does say happens is something that I absolutely hate! This book frustrated me so much! And I don't normally get frustrated at books! I wanted to dislike it because something happens in it that I absolutely detest and the synopsis kind of tells you what it is, but something about it kept me reading on! The plot of this book was sex, sex, sex! No joke! It was hard to see what the original plot was behind all the sex as in every chapter there were one or more sex scenes! I kind of understand why this was, but in every chapter? I probably won't be the first to admit that the sex scenes were deliciously hot though! I really enjoyed that the author put in scenes from when two of the characters were younger as it was good to see them at an earlier stage in their lives and see how they have developed since then! The plot also sort of backfires on the main character near the end of the book and I wasn't really expecting that to happen! I was quite surprised to be honest! I liked how the book ended though! The characters were great! Samantha "Sam" was the main character and I thought that I wasn't going to like her because of what she did in this book, but I could see how unhappy she was and why she did what she did, but I did kind of lose some respect for her! I liked that she did question what she was doing several times in the book, but then she annoyed me again after she questioned herself and then didn't really do anything about it! I don't agree with cheating in a relationship at all, so it was hard for me to connect with Sam at times even though I could kind of see why she did it! I didn't like what she did near the end of the book as well! She became a bit obsessed and her change in behaviour did kind of scare me! She did redeem herself though! Aiden and Jacob were the love interests of Sam and I did like both of them! Sam was obviously married to Aiden, but the spark had sort of gone from their relationship and then enters Jacob! It takes, from what I can estimate, months before Sam actually realises who she truly loves! She did think that she was with the right person and she was, but it takes a mistake as such for her to realise that she was already with the right person! I didn't know that there was going to be another book to this series when I started reading Love Square but I'm quite looking forward to reading it and going inside a character's head who played a big part in this book! The cover for this book was what made me want to read it! I wanted to read the story behind it as the cover's hot! Big thank you to Jessica for an ARC of Love Square and also for having me on the Blog Tour!

Review: PODs [Pods 01] by Michelle Pickett!

Publication date: 4th June 2013
Paperback edition: -
Source: Paperback
Rating: 5 stars
Synopsis: Seventeen-year-old Eva is a chosen one. Chosen to live, while others meet a swift and painful death from an incurable virus so lethal, a person is dead within days of symptoms emerging. In the POD system, a series of underground habitats built by the government, she waits with the other chosen for the deadly virus to claim those above. Separated from family and friends, it's in the PODs she meets David. And while true love might not conquer all, it's a balm for the broken soul.

After a year, scientists believe the population has died, and without living hosts, so has the virus. That's the theory, anyway. But when the PODs are opened, survivors find the surface holds a vicious secret. The virus mutated, infecting those left top-side and creating... monsters.

Eva and David hide from the infected in the abandoned PODs. Together they try to build a life--a new beginning. But the infected follow and are relentless in their attacks. Leaving Eva and David to fight for survival, and pray for a cure.

I had a hard time writing this review as I tried so hard not to give anything away, but this book blew my mind! I had been wanting to read it for months so when I heard that the Spencer Hill Press UK ARC Share Group were getting ARCs of it then I was so excited! I couldn't get through it fast enough! It was just amazing! There was so much suspense and action in it that it nearly had my biting my fingernails! I had my own ideas after reading the synopsis about what was going to happen in this book and I can honestly say that I was wrong with some of my ideas! The synopsis does give quite a lot away, but I wasn't expecting some of this book to happen at all, but it made it so much more interesting and a lot of the scenes added more suspense! Overall the plot of PODs blew me away! It was gory and my adrenaline level was so high after and whilst I was reading it! I also thought that the plot was original! I have read a few other books that focus on the same situation, but the author made it her own by adding in twists and some original features! The characters were also amazing! Eva was the main character and PODs was told from her point of view! I loved Eva! I connected with her the whole way through this book and I saw her become a better person! Eva grew so much during this book! She was strong from the start, but as the book progressed I saw her become an even stronger person! I could see how much she loved David as well! David was the love interest of Eva and he was so protective of her! I adored him for it! He gave up everything for her which must have been hard for him, but I could honestly see that he would do it all again in a heartbeat for her! There were quite a few other characters in this book and most of them actually played pretty big parts! I loved all the secondary characters! They all brought so much to the story! The ending was absolutely perfect that I thought that this book was a standalone until a friend told me that another book was coming out! I can say that I'm super excited to see where the next book is going to go and I'm also curious to see if it's still going to be about Eva and David! I am in love with the cover! it suits the book so much and the girl on the front is exactly how I pictured Eva looking like while reading the book! Big thank you to Spencer Hill Press for giving the Share Group ARCs of PODs and to Michelle for sending me a signed copy!

Excerpt!
   I was done with guys.
Not in that fake, I-say-that-but-deep-down-I-really-want-a-boyfriend kind of way, but in, like, the seriously-I'd-rather-eat-maggoty-cheese kind of way. No relationships. Not for me. Not now and maybe not ever. Who I am…what I am, and what I’m capable of? Everyone’s better off this way.
"I have to stop at my locker real quick," I said, veering to the right and cutting through the crush of kids heading straight like wildebeests to a watering hole. Libby followed and then stood by me as I fiddled with the lock.

"What's that?" She pointed to a white piece of paper sticking out half an inch from one of the slots in the olive metal door.
I tugged the padlock open and flicked the catch with my thumb. "Dunno." Maybe Bink had left me another note. Bink was my neighbor, bud, and—most days—my ride home. Last time I’d found a note in my locker, it was when his cell phone died and he needed to bail early. I seriously hoped this wasn’t a repeat performance.
I mentally ran down the list of people I could bug for a ride and came up empty. Libby always had to stay after for some activity or another, and I only really had two other people I could call "friends" and neither lived near me. I wrinkled my nose in anticipation of the dirty-sneakers-meets-day-old-bologna smell of a bus filled with kids who'd had last-period gym and opted not to change clothes.
With a sigh, I pulled open the door and the white rectangle floated to the floor.
Libby bent to grab it and read it out loud. "'Dear Sad and Lonely…'" She trailed off and went quiet for a few seconds until her peachy complexion went hot pink, and then she gasped. "Oh my God. Holy… Oh, Mags, you are so not going to like this."
I snatched the paper from her, trying to ward off the growing pit in my gut.

Dear Sad and Lonely,

Since I can almost guarantee She is about to give you some seriously shite advice like she does every week, let me be the voice of reason. Your boyfriend is just like most high school guys. Cut him some slack and, even better, why not offer to learn how to play some of the games he likes? He'd probably appreciate the effort and might even take you somewhere nice after. If that doesn't work, sit him down and let him know how you're feeling so he can tell you what's going on with him. Could be that constantly calling the things he likes stupid isn't the best way to get what you want in this situation, yeah? In any case, don't let the ramblings of some bitter emo chick who's probably never had a boyfriend ruin your relationship.
Hope it helps,
He

The shock was too thick to let the anger in right away, but as stunned as I was, I knew exactly who was behind this. There was only one person in the whole school who would use the word “shite.”
   Mac Finnegan.
Opinionated, annoying, hot—did I mention annoying?—Mac Finnegan, who had barely given me the time of day since he'd come to Crestwood High a couple months ago. Mac Finnegan, who thought he was soooo cool with his Irish accent and his mocking smile. Mac Finnegan, who inexplicably made me want to lick him like an ice cream cone and then immediately rinse my mouth out with acid.
How had he discovered my secret? Only Bink and Libby knew I was the girl behind “That's What She Said,” and I would have bet everything I owned that neither of them would have ratted me out.
Didn’t matter, though. One way or another, he knew. Even worse, he'd chosen to taunt me with it. Bitter emo chick who’s probably never had a boyfriend, indeed. I had a boyfriend once and it hadn’t ended well for either of us. I was in no rush to repeat the experience. Besides, what did this Irish asshat care?
Anger tightened my chest. I could feel the power rising in me, clawing to get out, roaring to be heard. The hair on my arms stood on end as I tried to breathe through it, to let the fury dissipate and flow out of my pores in harmless pings of energy, but it was no use. I pressed a hand to my locker and opened up the tiniest of escape valves, the spout of the teakettle, whistling off a stream of steam. The cheap metal instantly heated against my skin, the door buckling and warping on the spot just beneath my fingertips.
"Uh, Mags—" Libby whispered urgently, but a male voice cut her off.
"How's it going there, Libby? Maggie."
I turned around, still trying to catch my breath, and there he was, strolling by, a grin splitting his sinfully beautiful face.
Mac Finnegan, who had decided that being the new kid wasn't bad enough, so he had to actively go out of his way to make enemies. Mac Finnegan, who wanted to turn my world upside down rather than minding his own business. Mac Finnegan, who didn't know the meaning of live and let live.
Mac Finnegan, who clearly had no idea who he was fucking with.

I'll be honest and say that I was torn between reviewing and doing a promo post for this Blog Tour as I wasn't sure if I was really going to enjoy this book, but I'll hold my hand up and say that I'm so happy I ended up picking to review it! This book was amazing! It really surprised me! This book is definitely an 18+ book though! It has some scenes that definitely aren't appropriate for anyone under that age to read! The plot was amazing, but it was full of sex! No joke! I didn't really see much plot development until about the last 20% which is where the plot just exploded and everything that you had been waiting for happened in that space of time! It was brilliant! I think this book is the first book I've read that's really done that! The plot blew me away! I will admit that one particular scene near the end did have me fearing for the main character and I was quite surprised that it was in there! I didn't really think that it would have went that far, but I guess you never know what some people are capable of! I did think the plot was a little strange! I haven't really read another book with the same kind of plot as this book had, so I kind of didn't really know what to expect! The characters were amazing! Tori was the main character and I loved her! She was just an average person who was basically in the wrong place at the wrong time! She had a bit of spunk to her that came out at several points in the book and I loved that she stood up for herself! My heart went out to Tori at several points in this book and I actually cried at the end for her! She went through quite a journey in this book, but she was an amazing character! Sebastian was the love interest of Tori and he was smoking hot! He made me swoon! He was so possessive of Tori that it kind of made me love him even more considering the situation they were in! Sebastian and Tori had so much sexual tension when they were around each other! It was like they were on fire! It was explosive! I loved them as a couple! Jose was such a creep! I'm not even going to lie! He was the villain in this book and I just wanted to punch him! He infuriated me and what he did to Tori was disgusting and vile! The ending of this book leaves so much unanswered! It makes you question everything that you've just read! It was so weird! I definitely won't ruin it for you though by telling you what happens though! I will definitely continue reading this series! Break Me surprised me and I really enjoyed it! I'm looking forward to reading the next book and seeing where it'll go especially after the ending to this book! The cover is also hot! It definitely suits the book! The models on the front are how I pictured Tori and Sebastian while reading the book! Big thank you to Jo-Anna for an ARC of Break Me and to Brenda from Twinsie Talk Tours for having me on the Blog Tour!

Excerpt!

He moves closer and already my body is responding. He smells like cigarettes and leather, two smells I never thought were sexy until now. I want to fall into his body, to be wrapped in his arms, and I fight it. It’s wrong and it makes no sense. I have everything I could ever want. Jack is just a distraction.
“I’m not that kind of girl,” I tell him.
He steps closer still and kisses my neck. His lips are soft, which is unexpected, and it sends a shiver through me. Jack brings me in to his chest. I can feel his heart beating; it’s quickening and it matches mine. I feel his tongue sliding down along my collarbone. There is nothing like this, but I need him to stop. And yet, I never want him to stop. “I’d love to know exactly what kind of girl you are.”
Almost as if they are not my own, my hands slip between his jacket and his shirt. The heat of his skin burns me even through the fabric of his clothes. His lips continue to travel downward, but as they reach the curve of my breasts, something in me wakes up. I tear myself away from him and back up a few inches.
   “I have a boyfriend,” I repeat. “I can’t do this.”
“Where is he?” Jack asks. His eyes are burning.
   “What?”
“Where is your boyfriend? You’ve mentioned him before, but you run into me a lot for someone who’s so in love.”
