Review: ARV-3 [After Light 01] by Cameo Renae!

Publication date: 26th November 2013
Paperback edition: -
Source: Kindle
Rating: 5 stars
Synopsis: The beginning of the end. The Apocalypse.

A nuclear fallout wiped out every living thing on the planet, except for a few thousand of us who took shelter in underground bunkers across the globe. Now, after thirteen long years, we were finally able to return to the topside to begin to rebuild.

We thought we were alone. We were never more wrong.

Before the fallout, scientists had worked on creating an anti-radiation vaccine (ARV). The first two attempts failed, but despite the incomplete tests and results, the government approved and distributed the third serum to the masses in an effort to aid those who had no shelter.

It worked, keeping those who remained on the topside alive, but it also altered and mutated them. This new and infectious threat had completely outnumbered us. Now, we not only had to rebuild our planet. We would have to fight for it.

My name is Abigail Park. I’m seventeen, and this is my story.

I had been desperate to read this book! I'm a huge fan of dystopian, apocalyptic books, so I knew that I was going to love this one! And love it I did! This book was amazing! It was really unique as well! I haven't read anything quite like it! The plot of this book was insane! There was so much going on and there was never a dull moment that would ever make you want to put the book down! Like, ever! I loved that there was also plenty of background in this book about what made the world come to an end and how people survived! The aspect of the mutants was also pretty original, as they were kind of like zombies, but they weren't because the mutants were still human in a way! And also, their bites could turn you and they had to survive by eating human flesh! The mutants were a fresh idea and a new take on a dystopian, apocalyptic book! The plot also went in a different direction to what I was expecting, but I really, really enjoyed it! I was expecting the plot to go in a way of the characters trying to survive in the outside world with the mutants, and they did for some of the book, but then a lot of the plot was based in a compound of sort, which, if I'm honest, I was kinda expecting to happen in the next book lol! I did enjoy where the overall plot went though and I did think that this book was a standalone to start with, so it would have been perfect if it had been! I'm so happy it's a series though! The characters were amazing! Abigail was the main character and this book was written from her point of view! I loved Abi! There were some times in this book where I thought she maybe overreacted a little and she just had to listen, but apart from that, she was a genuine person who was having to adjust to living in a dangerous world! Abi was also such a such a fighter! She was always willing to risk her own life in order to save someone else's and that's something I strongly admired about her! I hope she stays like this in the next book! She was also acted just like a normal girl, but I loved that she had a bit of a rebelious streak to her too! She was willing to go to all lengths to find out the truth, which I loved! Finn was the love interest of Abi and I have to admit that I wasn't sure if there was going to be a romance in this book, but I'm so happy there was! Finn was such a sweetheart! He was there for Abi from page one and I loved how protective he was of her as well! Plus, he was so hot! My heart was in my mouth for Finn at the end of this book! I had no idea what was going to happen to him! The secondary characters in this book also added so much to the plot! I can't wait to see them develop in the next book! As I said, I thought that this book was a standalone when I first heard about it, but I'm really happy to discover that it's actually the beginning of a series! I cannot wait to read the next book in this series and see what's going to happen next! Plus, the ending of this book left it at a great place, but I did think it was slightly rushed! The cover for this book is absolutely perfect! It represents what happened in the book brilliantly as well! I love it! Big thank you to Cameo for a copy of ARV-3!

Blog Tour & Giveaway: Made For You by Melissa Marr!

Publication date: 16th September 2014
Paperback edition: 368 pages
Source: Kindle
Rating: 4.5 stars
Synopsis: Bestselling author of the Wicked Lovely books Melissa Marr’s first contemporary YA novel is a twisted southern gothic tale of obsession, romance, and murder. A killer is obsessed with Eva Tilling. Can she stop him, or will he claim her?

When Eva Tilling wakes up in the hospital, she’s confused—who in her sleepy little North Carolina town could have hit her with their car? And why? But before she can consider the question, she finds that she’s awoken with a strange new skill: the ability to foresee people’s deaths when they touch her. While she is recovering from the hit-and-run, Nate, an old flame, reappears, and the two must traverse their rocky past as they figure out how to use Eva’s power to keep her friends—and themselves—alive. But while Eva and Nate grow closer, the killer grows increasingly frantic in his attempt to get to Eva.

For the first time, New York Times bestselling author Melissa Marr has applied her extraordinary talent to contemporary realism. Chilling twists, unrequited obsession, and high-stakes romance drive this Gothic, racy thriller—a story of small-town oppression and
salvation. Melissa’s fans, and every YA reader, will find its wild ride enthralling.

I was so, so excited about this book when I heard about it! It sounded amazing and my kind of book! So when I got an email about Blog Tour sign-ups, I quickly signed up and sent a silent prayer that I would get on it lol! I'd also heard a lot about this author, but I'd yet to read any of her books until this one! This book was so freaking good! I devoured it in one day in one sitting! I just couldn't put it down! The plot was amazing! It was chilling, mysterious, suspenseful, and had a dash of romance in it! It was everything I hoped it would be! There were also a few twist and turns to keep things progressing and that could have ultimately changed the outcome of the book! The mystery aspect of the plot was also done brilliantly! I had my suspicions as to who the killer could be, but it was sort of hard to say for sure because there were quite a few secondary characters! A few people raised suspicion with me, but I had two main suspects! I can say that the killer was one of the suspects I guessed, so I was majorly happy that my suspicions were correct lol! The characters were amazing! Eva was the main character and she was sort of the 'it girl' at the beginning of this book and she still sort of was for the remainder of the book, but I felt like Eva didn't really act like she was the 'it girl' as the book progressed and she just wanted to find out who was killing everyone and had tried to kill her! I liked Eva's character, but there were some times where I didn't like her as much! She acted sort of stuck-up, which is why I didn't like her at times! She was fierce at the big action scene at the end of this book though! Nate was the main love interest of Eva! I loved Nate! I wasn't sure if he was going to be in this book a lot when he was first introduced, but the synopsis made it sound like Nate was going to play a big part, and he did, which I was happy about! Nate was so sweet with Eva too and I could see that he had strong feelings for her! He also brought out a playful, laidback side to Eva and he really helped her with finding out who the killer was! I loved that he was there for Eva for almost the whole of this book too! I'd also like to say that Eva had a boyfriend in this book for some of it, but there wasn't a love triangle or anything like that! I loved that there wasn't a love triangle because there was already a lot going on in the plot and a love triangle would have been too much! This book was written mainly from Eva's point of view, but there were several chapters written from the killer, 'Judge's', point of view and a few chapters were written from Eva's best friend, Grace's, point of view! This added a lot of mystery to the book and getting to go inside the killer's head was really creepy and gave you more insight into why he was doing what he was doing! I can completely understand why this book is a standalone! The plot was wrapped up and all the questions and mystery were answered! The cover for this book is absolutely stunning! It really intrigued me and drew me in, so I couldn't wait to read the story behind it! Big thank you to Melissa and HarperCollins for an e-ARC of Made For You and to Xpresso Book Tours for having me on the Blog Tour!

Cover Reveals & Giveaway: Fix Up [Patch Up 02] and Change Up [Patch Up 03] by Stephanie Witter!

Fix Up [Patch Up 02]!

Saying “I love you'' doesn’t erase the old scars and fears.

"I love you to insanity. I'm not even sure if it's a good thing.'' — Duke

Skye is trying to overcome what happened with Sean. Now that she’s slowly healing, both physically and mentally, she’s determined to do something she should have done sooner.

She’s meeting twice a week with a new, very young therapist, Dr. Marshall.

There, she’s able to talk freely, unwind, and question things. Most of the sessions she talks about herself and her hangups, along with her relationship with Duke, which is still on rocky ground.

"I want to taste his sweat. I want to hear his groans. I want to feel him inside of me.'' — Skye

But while Skye is slowly getting back on her feet, Duke feels like he's drowning. He’s afraid of pushing her too much, of initiating intimacy, and it’s weighing between them. Moreover, knowing that he's not the one she’s talking to anymore is making him feel things he never thought possible.

"It’s a matter of when I’ll stop fighting." — Duke

As days pass, Duke is showing over and over how vulnerable he truly is and how Skye has more power over him than she ever imagined.

When Skye sees how they keep hurting each other, she’s determined to do everything in her power to make things right, no matter what the cost. But one thing is still sure; she can count on Duke whenever she needs him, even if they disagree and fight. When Duke loves, he loves with everything he’s made of, the good and the bad.

"Loving her is confusing, making me afraid of myself and what I can do ... because I can break us both." — Duke

Change Up [Patch Up 03]!

In Patch Up and Fix Up you had Skye and Duke’s story. Now, it’s time for Derek and Kate to find their path.

He fights for the people he loves.
She fights against love.

Kate Andrews is starting her second year of college in Seattle. She is happy to leave Chicago and her dysfunctional family behind to be with her friends again. Growing up she thought that her parents' loveless marriage was all her father’s fault, but that summer she discovered that things are so much more complicated in life and love.

Her mother is bipolar. That doesn’t mean her father isn’t unfaithful, nor does he support her and her choices. Additionally, he isn't a great father or husband, but it brings a new perspective in her life; the way she envisions love.

Derek Williams graduated college a few months ago, and while he moved back in again with his single mother and teenage brother, he never thought that he would be struggling with two crappy jobs. He is not succeeding in either of his jobs or in his countless plans for the future.

Instead, he’s trying to bring back his brother and set him on a straight path, while trying to avoid the wrong crowd hounding him, thanks to his brother. Together with fighting his mother on her lack of support in their family, this all has caused chaos.

“Yes, my life is a fucking mess. I have nothing for that girl who deserves everything, and yet I still can’t just sit on my ass and wait for the next asshole to pursue her.‘' — DEREK

Both of them are very different. Their upbringing is opposite; their vision of love and life contrast, and yet …

“I want to open up to it, open up to the possibility of heartbreak even if I’m scared to death. I’m ready to change up.'' — KATE

They’re both still hung up on each other.

They can’t forget that one night they shared months ago, can’t ignore their attraction and quickly maturing love. They match in every way that matters, but time and time again their respective families are getting in the way.

"He’s the commitment kind while I’m anti-commitment." — KATE

Are they willing to fight for each other? Is Kate ready to risk her comfort and everything else for love? Is Derek prepared to chose which battles are worth fighting for?

“It’s never been friendship, and it’ll never be.’’ — DEREK

Favourite quote: I hadn’t been looking for the one, or anyone for that matter, but love doesn’t wait till you think you’re ready. It comes along when you least expect it and turns your life upside down. It sends you on a journey of epic proportions and changes the course of your life. It completes you.

I was really, really excited when I heard about this book from the author! I then got the opportunity to beta read it, and of course, I said yes! I've beta read a few of this author's other books and couldn't wait to sink my teeth into this one! This book really was amazing! I just loved everything about it! I beta read it over several months, but the author wrote this book super fast, so I was never begging her for more lol! The plot of this book had beautiful moments, sad moments and moments of realisation for the main character! There was so much emotion in it too! My emotions were all over the place too when I was reading it lol! The plot developed at the perfect pace and I was always desperate to read on and see how things were going to progress! I just loved everything about the plot of this book, and I loved that it wasn't straightforward and had some twist and turns! I was hooked by it! The characters were amazing! Tatum was the main female character and she had been through, and then went through, so much in this book! She was such a confused character at the beginning of this book and she was dealing with a lot of family issues! I felt so sorry for her! She became a much stronger character as this book progressed though, which made me really happy! I also loved that Tatum didn't give up on her parents, but that she stood up to them in this book when she needed too! She came a long way in this book! Jude was the love interest of Tatum and he was so freaking hot! Jude was just the sweetest and most persistent guy ever! He though of everything and he was always so sweet and gentle with Tatum! He was also very witty, so some of the things he said made me laugh! Jude had been through a lot as well, which made me heart go out to him! He and Tatum were both kind of broken, but together they made each other whole, which is how I would describe their relationship! I have to admit that I was kinda expecting this book to be written from both Tatum and Jude's point of view, but it was actually only written from Tatum's! This made me a little upset, but I'm hoping the author will reveal a few chapters from Jude's point of views as extras or something like that! I loved that characters from the other books in this series made appearances in this book too! It was amazing to see how their relationships had progressed! The ending of this book was so beautiful! I smiled like an idiot while reading it! I'm really sad that this book is the last book in this series! I've loved this series so much, so I'm sad to see it come to an end! The cover for this book is absolutely stunning! I started beta reading it when it didn't have a cover, so I had my own idea about how the cover could possibly look! I have to say that the cover is even better than what I imagined! The models are perfect for the characters of Jude and Tatum and I love everything about the design! Big thank you to Micalea for allowing me to beta read Saving Tatum and to Stephanie's Book Reports for having me on the Blog Tour!

Release Week Event & Review: Unforgiven [Unbreakable 03] by Rebecca Shea!

Publication date: 16th September 2014
Paperback edition: -
Source: Kindle
Rating: 5 stars
Synopsis: A companion novel to "Unbreakable" & "Undone" and is the final book in the Unbreakable series -- This is Lindsay and Matt's story.

Lindsay Christianson seemingly has it all—the perfect career, the perfect boyfriend, and the best-laid plans for a perfect life—until one phone call changes everything.

With a moments notice, Lindsay must choose between her perfect life and her professional dreams. The choice momentarily seems clear when the opportunity to propel her career abruptly sends her across the country, leaving everything she loves behind in North Carolina.

Navigating a new city with a broken heart and a job where her colleagues will do anything to sabotage her success, the pressure quickly becomes too great. When old habits resurface, Lindsay finds herself chasing demons she thought were long since buried.

With pain and destruction left in her wake, will Lindsay find a way to erase the damage she’s done, or will her sins remain unforgiven?

I couldn't wait to read this book! I just loved the other books in the series, and although I knew this book was going to be about other characters in the series, I still couldn't wait to read it! This book really was amazing! There was so much in it and the characters went on a whirlwind journey, both separately and together! The plot of this book dealt with love, forgiveness and redemption! There was also drug use and anorexia in the plot too, which played a pretty big part! The plot just had so much light in it with the main characters relationship, but there were really dark phases too! It also progressed at the perfect pace and I zoomed through this book so fast! I would have read it in one sitting if I hadn't forced myself to leave the last 20% until I had started writing my review lol! I just couldn't get enough of it! The characters were amazing! Lindsay was the main female character and she went through so much in this book! My heart just went out to her! I was silently begging Lindsay in my head to stay herself and not listen to any of the people being nasty to her, but Lindsay bent under the pressure and she turned to drugs, which lead to her becoming anorexic! She came such a long way in this book though and she grew so much! I just loved her! Lindsay also appeared in another book in this series, so I knew who she was before reading this book, but she was a secondary character in the other book! Matt was the main male character and love interest of Lindsay! Matt was seriously hot, but I felt really sorry for him in this book! I saw him deliriously happy at the beginning, but then it sort of all came crashing down, which made Matt sort of kept himself to himself! He had such a hard time dealing with losing the woman he loved too! Matt came a long way in this book too though! He experienced life without the woman he loved, which showed him how strong his feelings for her were! I have to say that I loved that Matt didn't rush back into a relationship with Lindsay and that they gradually grew back into a relationship! It definitely worked out better for them! Matt also appeared in another book in this series, but I loved getting to read his story! I loved that this book was written from both Lindsay and Matt's point of views! I wasn't sure if it was going to be, but I'm really happy it was! It made the plot even better and it really helped me connect even more with the two characters! I also loved that characters from the other books in the series made appearances in this book! It was amazing to see how their relationships had progressed! This book is last book in this series, which makes me really sad! I just loved reading this series so much! The ending of this book was beautiful though and summed up the Matt and Lindsay's story perfectly! I can't wait to read more from this author too! The cover for this book is stunning! I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it and I love how well it suits the other covers in the series! Big thank you to Rebecca for an ARC of Unforgiven and to Shh Moms Reading for having me on the  Release Week Event!

Book Blitz: Club Luxe 1: The Private Room [Billionaires Underground 01] by Olivia Noble!

Excerpt!

Angrily, she reached for the bottle of shampoo and squeezed a liberal amount into her hand. She set it back on the shower caddy and lathered her hair with the softly scented gel. Almost instantly, she began to feel better. The sweat that had collected throughout the night was washing away along with some of her bitterness. The soothing feeling of her hair becoming clean was only surpassed by the feeling of her fingers kneading her scalp. She sighed a little at the feeling and her mind drifted to Malcolm’s touch.
“Stupid, selfish man!” she muttered to herself as she rinsed her hair.
“I resemble that remark,” a dark voice said from behind her.
Victoria spun around to face the intruder and her eyes narrowed at the sight of Malcolm holding open the glass door to the shower. His chest and face were partly obscured by the steamy fog from the hot water, and he looked unearthly. “What are you doing here?” she asked with a hint of dread in her voice.
“I couldn’t stay away from you,” he said as he took a step closer to her.
She gulped down some air and crossed her arms over her breasts unconsciously. His naked muscles rippled as he stepped forward, and her body quivered at the sight of him. She could feel his eyes wandering over her and she felt hot under his gaze. “Malcolm,” she whispered.
He didn’t give her much chance to speak as his arms quickly wrapped around her waist. His lips crashed into hers like a tidal wave, and she was so caught up in it that she couldn’t breathe. She was drowning in his kiss and loved every moment of it. His passion inundated her with more force than the expensive shower jets, and bathed her far more thoroughly. Her arms pulled him closer to her and she slowly traced her fingers up his back.
“Victoria,” he groaned in agony. “I need to have more of you.”
His words sent shivers up her spine. Tears pricked the back of her eyes as she began to feel the tiniest twinge of hope. “I need you too,” she whispered, clinging to his neck.

His hand gently wrapped around my arm and I resisted the urge to yank away from his touch. I was angry, but I was conscious of the fact that we promised each other before setting out for dinner that we were just playing our roles. It was necessary for our survival. I wasn’t a stranger to being a slave. I was born one. Yet being Jack’s slave had been humiliating. He was my partner, my almost-lover and my friend. It made hearing his role in the sterilization program that much harder to take. I thought I knew him, but he was still a stranger.
He turned me around to face him, his expression sad and apologetic. “Sunny…I’m sorry.”
I could tell he was struggling and a part of me was grateful that he might be feeling some remorse. “The sterilization program?”
My voice broke around the lump in my throat. For once I was glad my emotions had stolen my ability to speak. I didn’t want to talk. I just wanted to shut down.
“I was a little kid when my parents campaigned for that program,” Jack said, his voice cracking with emotion. “They pushed it through as an alternative to lowering the age of the Cull. They saved thousands in the Pit from being rounded up and killed.”
I opened my mouth to speak, challenging that lump, but my tears decided it was a good time to show up. I jerked my arm out of his grasp and started toward the bedroom.
   “Don’t walk away from me.”
I stopped and turned to look at him. “Was that an order, sir?”
We glared at each other from across the room. Jack was the first to look away. “No, it wasn’t,” he said. He rubbed a hand across his eyes.
I continued to glare at him. “Is that why you were acting so jumpy earlier tonight? You were afraid I’d find out what you’re really like?”
“I’ll admit it was one of the reasons.”
My eyes widened in shock at his honesty.
“Don’t look so surprised, Sunny. I was the presidential heir! You think I didn’t do anything to earn that title?” He stared at me, waiting for my reply.
I didn’t have one. Maybe because at some point during our association I had convinced myself that the presidential heir I had seen on TV so many times didn’t actually exist. That man was just an image and not the same person I had lived with in the Pit.
“I told you before we left the Dome, you changed me,” he said, breaking the silence that had grown between us. “I had my eyes opened during my time down there.”

In a desperate attempt to escape execution, Sunny O’Donnell and Jack Kenner find a way out of the Pit and into a world still believed to be toxic with radiation. Under the brilliant sun for the first time in their lives, they not only discover that the earth has healed from nuclear war, but there are people outside the Dome.

In Worlds Collide, the second book of the Sunset Rising trilogy, Sunny and Jack must continue a life of subterfuge in order to stay alive and find a way to free the Pit. But in their attempt to save the urchins, they uncover the horrifying truth about President Holt and the evil he could unleash on the world.

Her goal in writing
the novel is to entertain the reader with an interesting plot and colourful characters.
