The pain lasted for another five agonizing seconds, and then it…
It was just gone.
Like it was never even there.
I didn’t have time to react to that. Didn’t even have time to let my brain process what had just happened because I heard a noisy breath. Gazing up from my hand, I wilted when I saw the blond woman standing on the other side of the room with three new people.
“Did you really plan to use that?” she asked incredulously. “On me?”
“I…” Yes. Yes, I did.

Maddie Bloom is dreading sophomore year. Not only is her mom’s mysterious illness getting worse, but it’s also a brand-new year of her longtime bully to look forward to.
