I was asked by the UK publisher of this book if I would like to read an early proof paperback copy, and I said yes! I hadn't heard of this book before, but the synopsis sounded awesome, so I looked it up on Goodreads and read some reviews! There were a lot of mixed reviews, so I was a little worried about reading this book before I started reading! I did read some good things about it though, so it eased my worries a bit lol! After reading this book, I wouldn't say that it's the most gripping thriller I've ever read or will ever read, but I would say that it was definitely worth the read, especially if you're a fan of thriller books! I actually enjoyed this book more than I was expecting too! The plot focused on malaria and it was about a group of people trying to stop a new form of malaria from spreading more than it already had! The plot didn't actually start to come together until near the end, but it built up at a nice pace and it held my interest when I got a few chapters in! I also liked that a lot of this book took place in Amsterdam in the Netherlands, and then some other chapters took place in central Africa! I found this interesting, as I've never been to any of these countries, so it was interesting to read about them and read a book set there! The characters were great! I would say that Max was the main male character! He was a sort of kick-ass, funny character! He started off just a normal, everyday guy, but a few chapters in and as the plot started to become more intense, he turned into a determined, strong-minded guy, who wouldn't stop until he had found his missing girlfriend, Erica! He also just threw himself into the danger to find out the information he needed, and I really enjoyed his character! He added a lot to this book! Erica was the sort of main female character, and the only way you really connect with her in this book is through diary entries due to what happens in the plot! I normally don't like reading a book if it's written in diary entries, but because only some scenes were written in diary format, I was able to read them fine! The diary entries were actually my favourite bit of the book too! I also found Erica's character really interesting! She had been through a lot and I wouldn't have known the half of what she had been through if her diary entries hadn't been in the book! She was a really strong character too! This book was written from multiple characters point of views! I can see why the author did this as the plot of this book had a lot in it, but I generally only like reading a book from two characters point of views, so I found all the different point of views a little confusing as this book developed! I could understand why this book needed all the different point of views though! I can completely understand why this book is a standalone! Everything was resolved and the ending was awesome! The UK cover for this book suits the book perfectly! I like that it's similar to the US cover too! I prefer the UK cover though!
