Cover Reveal: Playing for Keeps [The Game 02] by Emma Hart!

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Emma Hart, comes the second book in The Game series, and the story everyone wanted after The Love Game…

She's in love with him.
He's trying not to love her.
One night changes everything.

Aston Banks never meant to get close to Megan Harper – not even for that one night. Haunted by a childhood he refuses to face, he knew she could break through every wall he’d ever built and tear them down without even realising she was doing it.

Betraying Braden by starting a relationship with Aston wasn’t on Megan’s to-do list, but the second she sees a glimpse of someone other than the arrogant ass she’s come to know, she can’t walk away.

Aston’s childhood is worse than Megan ever guessed, but as he tries and fails to push her away, it’s clear her love is stronger than the demons that cling to him every day. And now, because of it, he finally has to deal with what he’s buried deep down.

What he doesn’t want to face. What he’s fought against for so long.

And they have to do it all without Braden finding out.

Keeping a relationship secret has never been harder.

**This book can be read as a standalone novel, but reading The Love Game (The Game, #1) beforehand is advised.)

MEGAN

“If you’re trying to hide, babe, then you’re failing. I can see you.” Aston’s words crawl over me in a smooth caress, making my throat dry up and my blood boil simultaneously.
“Why would I be hiding?” I sit up and look forward, determined not to meet his eyes.
He shrugs a shoulder carelessly, twirling a pen between his fingers. I catch his every movement from the corner of my eye. His eyes are burning into the side of my head - they’re begging me to turn, begging me to look.
“Because you want me so badly you can’t bear to see me,” he says in a dramatic tone with a touch of arrogance.
My back straightens. “Clearly someone has been feeding your ego again,” I reply dryly. “Because I don’t remember ever telling you I want you.”
His bicep brushes mine as he leans forward. “Is that so?” he asks, his voice low and barely perceptible.
I fight the urge to drop my eyes to the desk. “Damn right it is.”
A fingertip trails down the back of my arm, the tingling feeling making me fight against a shiver.
“I think you’re wrong,” he whispers. “Because I’m pretty sure you said you wanted me on Saturday night – right before you dug those nails of yours into my back and wrapped your pretty little legs around my waist.”
My head snaps round to him, and our faces are inches apart. His lips are curled in a slightly smug smile, and I hate the fact that’s where my eyes fell first. I drag them away from his mouth and across the sharp planes of his face until they meet his smoky eyes.
I remember why I didn’t want to look at him. His eyes have the power to entrance me and to break me. Right now it’s the former – the silvery hint at the edge of his iris pulling me in and holding me captive. I remember why, from the first touch of his lips against mine on Saturday night, nothing could have stopped us happening.

Review: Lost & Found [Lost & Found 01] by Nicole Williams!

Publication date: 7th May 2013
Paperback edition: -
Source: Kindle
Rating: 5 stars
Synopsis: There’s complicated. And there’s Rowen Sterling.

After numbing pain for the past five years with boys, alcohol, and all-around apathy, she finds herself on a Greyhound bus to nowhere Montana the summer after she graduates high school. Her mom agreed to front the bill to Rowen’s dream art school only if Rowen proves she can work hard and stay out of trouble at Willow Springs Ranch. Cooking breakfast at the crack of dawn for a couple dozen ranch hands and mucking out horse stalls are the last things in the world Rowen wants to spend her summer doing.

Until Jesse Walker saunters into her life wearing a pair of painted-on jeans, a cowboy hat, and a grin that makes something in her chest she’d thought was frozen go boom-boom. Jesse’s like no one else, and certainly nothing like her. He’s the bright and shiny to her dark and jaded.

Rowen knows there’s no happily-ever-after for the golden boy and the rebel girl—happily-right-now is a stretch—so she tries to forget and ignore the boy who makes her feel things she’s not sure she’s ready to feel. But the more she pushes him away, the closer he seems to get. The more she convinces herself she doesn’t care, the harder she falls.

When her dark secrets refuse to stay locked behind the walls she’s kept up for years,
Rowen realizes it’s not just everyone else she needs to be honest with. It’s herself.

Favourite quote: "We will all, at some point in our lives, fall. Every single one of us." He hoisted himself up beside me and moved closer. "We shouldn't spend our time trying to avoid falling. We should spend it finding someone who will help us up."

I would do anything in the world to give this book more than 5 stars! It deserves so much more then that! This book was phenomenal! I have been an avid fan of Nicole Williams since I first discovered Crush in August last year and I have loved all of the books that I had read by her since! As soon as I heard about Lost & Found I knew that I was going to read it! In fact as soon as I read the word cowboy in the synopsis I knew that I was going to read it! I mean who doesn't love a cowboy? This book really did blow my mind! It may just be my favourite book of the year so far! During this book I laughed, I smiled and I sobbed like a baby! The plot of this book was quite easy to follow but there were some twists in it as well which I enjoyed! The plot was about learning to trust someone and through that person eventually learning to trust yourself! I went through a lot of emotions with the plot and I wouldn't of had it any other way! The characters were beyond amazing! Rowen was the main character and she was so easy for me to connect with! She hid herself away and tried so hard to downgrade herself but not realising that she was just like everyone else and that she really was an amazing person! I felt sorry for her as she had been through a lot with her mum and that's why she was forced to hide herself away! I loved that Jesse showed Rowen that she was perfect and that she didn't have to hide anymore! Jesse Walker! Even his name is sexy! He was one of the hottest male characters that I have ever read! I adored him right from the start! He was exactly what Rowen needed! Jesse and Rowen as a couple were on fire! Even when they were just in the same room it was on fire! When they were together my insides were squirming as I knew that one of them was going to do something to the other one and it was going to be hot! I would love another book to this one and I judging from the end I kind of think that there could be! The end left it fully resolved but it sort of left me with the feeling that there might be more to Rowen's story! How hot is that cover? Don't the colours just pop? I am in love with it and I can guarantee that it will be on my bookcase in paperback very soon!

Excerpt!

I head toward the bedroom and find Alex sprawled out on the center of the bed. I’m still pissed at her for dancing with him. I don’t know what she was thinking. I hate that fucker and seeing him with his hands on my girl was enough to send me over the edge. I immediately wanted to walk over to them but I stopped, telling myself over and over that there would be no way I could control my temper if I went anywhere near him.
I kept my eyes on them, ready to pounce if he took it any further. I started to cool down a little but deep shades of red clouded by vision when I saw him press his body closer to her. My mind was made up; I was heading over to punch that idiot in the face if I got through the packed crowd. I was still about ten feet away when I saw him press his lips to her cheek and it halted me in place; she let him do it. Didn’t push him away or tell him to stop. It took everything I had to not break his neck. I was even more pissed at Alex for letting him do it.
   I hate feeling this way.
“Dane,” she whispers, lifting her head from the pillow. She glances at the clock. “You’re late getting home.”
Yeah, I had a couple drinks after work. I needed them. “It was busy,” I say, sitting on the edge of the bed to remove my shoes.

Blog Tour: Norma Jean by Amanda Heath!

Publication date: 7th April 2013
Paperback edition: -
Source: Kindle
Rating: 5 stars
Synopsis: The night Chance Duncan drunkenly kissed me on his couch, I vowed my revenge. I finally had something over his head, something that would bring him to his knees. It only served him right. He bullied me for years and turned me into this messed up person I am now.

Though I didn’t know at the time he wasn’t that mean little boy anymore. He was almost a man and easily stole my breath away. I just wanted to make him fall in love with, then break his heart into a million pieces. Just the way mine was. Instead he put the pieces back together and I started to feel whole again.

Good things never last. He did what I was supposed to do. Broke my already fragile heart all over again. Betrayed and alone I fled my home town and started a new life where I wasn’t in the shadow of what I did.

Now he is back and trying to worm his way into my heart, again. Though he will never know it will always belong to him. He hurt me and I want nothing to do with him. Life has other plans. Doesn’t it always?

He doesn’t know though. Doesn’t know what I’m hiding or who I’m hiding from. I never thought I would see Chance again and I’m afraid that he’ll get hurt getting mixed up in my mess. Though he is right in the middle of it, without even knowing it. I have to find a way for us to get out, before somebody dies.

My name is Norma Jean and this isn’t a fairytale.

I loved this book! It was my first book by Amanda Heath and I got only a taste of her writing skills! I got so much more than I bargained for with Norma Jean! I wasn't really sure about reading it after I read the synopsis but as soon as I started reading it I couldn't put it down! I thought that this book was going to be an adult book, but I soon discovered from the first chapter that it was a New Adult book! The plot of this book had so much in it! It was written over quite a long period of time and some years and months were missed out! I would love a novella to maybe what happened during some of the years or months that passed by in this book without us knowing much about what happened during that time as I think that it would be an amazing addition to thins amazing book! The plot also had so many twists and turns in it as well! I wasn't expecting some of the twists and turns so I was pretty excited about them! The characters were amazing! I felt so sorry for Norma Jean at the beginning of this book but I loved how she took revenge! The girl fought dirty! I connected with her instantly as well! I felt sorry for her throughout most of the book as well as you discover more about what she has been through! I loved how strong she was though through it all! Chance was the love interest of Norma Jean and I loved him as well! I loved how much he had grown up since the beginning of this book! When I got a glimmer of what he used to be like I felt myself comparing how much he had changed! There were quite a lot of other characters in this book and they were all amazing and brought so much to the story! I also loved that Norma Jean was written from Norma Jean and Chance's point of view as after you discover what Norma Jean went through you got to go inside Chance's head and see how he really felt about her! The ending of this book was beyond perfect! I found myself grinning like an idiot while reading it! After reading Norma Jean it has definitely motivated me to check out Amanda's other books! I have them on my Kindle but I am now even more motivated to finally read them! When I started reading this book I did think that the cover was maybe a little too sexy for the book but once I got to a certain stage I realised how much it actually suits the book and the character of Norma Jean! I really do love it! Big thank you to Amanda for a copy of Norma Jean and to Allison for having me on the Blog Tour!

Book Trailer Reveal & Giveaway: Demanding Ransom by Megan Squires!

Sometimes life takes things away from you.

In nineteen-year-old Maggie Carson’s case, it’s taken more than its fair share.

Determined to move forward, Maggie embarks on her first year of college, hoping to finally put her past behind her, exactly where it belongs.

But that’s hard to do when the present is just as difficult. And even harder when someone like Ran, the gorgeous paramedic that keeps crossing Maggie’s path, challenges her to face things head on, rather than bury them like she always does.

Ran hasn’t had a perfect life either. But there’s something different about him, and something different about the way he makes Maggie feel. Maybe meeting Ran is life’s little gift for Maggie—a sort of consolation prize for enduring everything she's had to go through.

But things don’t come easy for Maggie. Why should love be the exception? And just when everything starts to settle, it’s all turned on its head once again.

If there is one thing Ran has taught Maggie, it’s that you can’t sit on the sidelines of your own existence. When life takes something that’s yours, you have every right to demand it back.

Only for Maggie, that is easier said than done.

Teaser!

“You have got to be kidding me?” I mumble as Micha struts into the kitchen with a pleased grin on his face as he rubs his hands together. “No way. Music was not part of the deal.”
He braces his hands on the doorframe and the light highlights the muscles on his chest and the shameless blaze in his aqua eyes. “Now most guys would have gone with some sexy song you had to dance to, but I’m a lyrical man myself and I think this song fits perfectly.”
The lyrics make my cheeks heat. “In no way shape or form did I offer up a striptease.”
His tongue slips slowly out of his mouth and when he pulls it back in, he draws his lip ring with it as his fingers comb through his disheveled hair, leaving strands sticking up. “Pay up, pretty girl.”
Pressing my lips firmly together to bury my nerves, I reach around to the back of my bra, and unclamp it. Wavering temporarily, I inhale an insecure breath, release the fabric from my fingers, and allow it to fall to the floor.
His eyes drift to my chest, unashamed, as he sips a beer. When he pulls the bottle away from his lips, he makes a motion with his finger. “Continue.”
I want to smack him upside the head, but unbutton my jeans. With my knees shaking, I step out of them and stand vulnerable in the spotlight, something I despise. Thankfully, I’m wearing boy-cut panties so at least my ass is covered. His eyes lazily move up my long legs, across my bare stomach, finally residing on my eyes.
“You can sit down now,” he says like he’s the boss.
Proving a point, I walk across the kitchen and steal a beer from the fridge. “I don’t have to sit down just because you tell me to—”
Warm fingers grip my side and reel me around, snatching the beer from my hand as my back presses against the fridge door. Micha stands only a sliver of space away from me, eyes fierce, lips tantalizing, his expression yearning with need.
He leans in to kiss me, but my hand against pushes at his chest, and his bare skin is warm as I hold him back. “No way. You didn’t win anything but a show.”
Lowering my head, I duck under his arm, but he snags my wrist and pins it above my head kind of rough. We’re drunk and neither of us are thinking rationally, but my interest in what’s coming renders me motionless.

Source: Kindle
Rating: 5 stars
Synopsis: The story that began in the USA Today bestseller RELENTLESS continues. Which team are you on?

In Relentless, college student Claire Nixon and surfer Adam Parker each had a painful past too heavy to carry alone. Claire tried to push Adam away, but Adam's relentless pursuit of her heart and her secrets made her walls come crumbling down.

Though their hearts will never be whole again, Claire and Adam now know they are stronger together than they are apart.

But now Claire's attending college a hundred miles away from Adam. With their relationship already hanging by a thread, Adam is sent to Hawaii on business.

And rock star Chris Knight is back in Claire's life.

Chris wants his ex-girlfriend back and he knows just how to get her: only he has the power to mend the final missing piece of Claire's broken heart. Now Claire must choose between a long-distance relationship with Adam and a second chance at love, family, and home.

Favourite quote: "You're mine, and a piece of you will always belong to me the same way a piece of me will always belong to you."

I loved the first book in this series so I was really looking forward to reading Pieces of You! I have to say that I didn't really enjoy this book as much as the first book! I preferred the first book as it had more relationship development in it and in Pieces of You relationships were put to the ultimate test! Also, there weren't a lot of scenes with Claire and Adam in them so I was slightly upset because I missed my Adam fix! This book was still extraordinary though! The plot continued on from where Relentless left off from and it was all about all of the characters coming to terms with the big secret that was revealed on the first book! I couldn't get through it fast enough as I was instantly drawn back into Claire's world! The plot was full of emotion that you connect with the characters a lot more and you start having more empathy for them! The characters were again amazing! I felt sorry for Claire as she had so much going on in her life and she had to deal with her love for two amazing guys who would do anything for her! I didn't agree with some of Claire's choices in this book, but in a strange way I could see why she made them! Adam in this book surprised me! I can't say much or else I will spoil the book, but he and Claire went through some things that I wasn't expecting them too and I felt sorry for him! We got a glimpse of Chris in the first book, but in this book he is one of the main characters! I liked Chris, I didn't not like him, but I didn't like that he came back into Claire's life and just expected her to get back into a relationship with him! I feel that I got to know him more as the book went on though! I loved that Pieces of You was written from Claire, Adam and Chris's point of view as in Relentless I got to see the story from only Claire's point of view, but when the guys point of views were added in then it made it so much more interesting as I got to go inside their heads and start to see how they really feel because emotions play such a big part in this book! The love triangle in this book comes to the ultimate climax! I was Team Adam in the first book and I was Team Adam in this book! I liked Chris, but I thought he was a little too big for his boots sometimes! I could see that he loved Claire though! I am definitely looking forward to reading the next book in this series and seeing where it ends and also seeing who Claire picks! I will be rooting for Adam! That cover! WOW! It is stunning and it most definitely suits the book! Big thank you to Cassia for an ARC of Pieces of You and to Christine for having me on the Blog Tour!

Review: Running On Empty [Mending Hearts 01] by L.B. Simmons!

Publication date: 4th January 2013
Paperback edition: -
Source: Kindle
Rating: 5 stars
Synopsis: I had the perfect life.

Beautiful and loving husband. Three gorgeous little girls. Successful career.

The only thing missing was the white picket fence. I really wanted that fence.

Three years ago, I lost that life. I lost my husband. And I lost myself. But, eventually, I found my way through the darkness. I’ve made peace with my new life. I have my girls, and that’s all that matters. They are my world. I have no illusions of ever falling in love again or getting whisked away on a white horse.

But then he came back into my life. On a freakin’ motorcycle.

There’s no way I’ll let him turn my life completely upside down. Absolutely no way.

The question is…

How long can I keep pretending that I’m happy with my life being right-side up?

Favourite quote: "You'll never have your happy ending unless you're brave enough to open the book and start your story."

WOW! This book completely blew me away! I bought it when it first came out and then when I helped reveal the cover and got on the Blog Tour for the novella, Recovery, then I thought that I better start reading this book so that I knew what was going on! When I first saw the cover for this book I thought that it was going to be a Young Adult or a New Adult book and then I saw that it actually wasn't after I read the synopsis! I was a little apprehensive about reading it as the main character was older than the characters normally are in the sort of books I read, but I can honestly say that I felt like I was reading a Young Adult or New Adult book and that was the first time that I've probably ever stepped outside my comfort zone and felt like that! It's the sort of feeling I love and another reason why I loved this book as much as I did! The plot of this book was so sad, but so beautiful at the same time! I was instantly drawn into it and it just got better and better! In Running On Empty there was this broken woman who was doing the best she could and putting on a brave face when inside she was broken, until someone comes back into her life and saves her! I loved that the plot was so interesting and kept making me what to read a few more chapters every chance I got! I also teared up at a particular scene in this book which I was pretty impressed about as I thought that I was going to cry the whole way through it! The characters were so amazing! Alex was the main character and I just adored her! She had been through so much and she still held her head high and was determined to be independent, even though it's okay to ask for help sometimes! Alex was someone who I admired as she was a character that tried her best even when she had been through a lot! Blake was the man who saved Alex! He swooped in and showed her that you can get a second chance at love and to cherish it when you find it! I loved him! He was also hot and exactly what Alex needed! I also loved Kyndall, Nycole and Rylie! They were so funny and exactly the kind of children I would want! I'm really looking forward to reading more of this series as Running On Empty was full of emotion and was written amazingly! The cover for this book is initially what drew me to it! It is absolutely stunning! I am in love with it! I also love how much the title suits the book as well!

Jessie Darker goes to high school during the day, but at night she helps with the family investigation business. Cheating husbands and stolen inheritances? They’re your girls—but their specialty is a bit darker. Zombie in your garage? Pesky Poltergeist living in your pool? They’ll have the problem solved in a magical minute. For a nominal fee, of course...

When gorgeous new client, Lukas Scott, saunters into the office requesting their help to find a stolen box, it sounds like a simple case—until the truth comes out. The box is full of Sin.

Seven deadly ones, in fact.

They’ve got five days to recapture the Sins before they're recalled by the box, taking seven hijacked human bodies with them. Easy peasy—except for one thing...

There’s a spell that will allow the Sins to remain free, causing chaos forever. When the key ingredient threatens the life of someone she knows, Jessie must make the ultimate choice between love and family—or lose everything.

“So not your biggest fan at the moment,” I said, closing the office door behind me. The runofffrom my jeans had soaked my sneakers pretty good. With each step, I gave a slight squishing noise accompanied by an annoying squeak against the old tile floor.
From across the room, Mom stared. “What happened to you?”
“It attacked me.” Tossing my bag on the couch, I sank into her chair and made sure to grind my butt into the cushion. Got it nice and wet. I was all about sharing the love—and right now, the love was soggy.
She laughed, waving a folder in my direction. “Surely you’re overreacting. It was one little zombie. They don’t attack people.”
“I’m serious, Ma. It tried to drown me. And the client assaulted me with ugly footwear. As far as punishments go, I’d say we’re probably square. I’ve learned my lesson.”
“You’re serious?” Amused expression now replaced by concern, she crossed the room and leaned over her desk to get a better look at me.
“As a coronary.” Once I was sure the chair had sponged up all it could, I stood and huffed past her. Pulling at my favorite T-shirt—the word Fate inside a blood red heart, is a four letter word on the back—I said, “Child welfare would not be happy to hear you tried to feed your only child to a walking corpse…”
“But why would it attack? Did you provoke it?” Folding her arms, she frowned. “Insult it, perhaps?”
I winked at her. “Provoke it? Sure. I went and wiggled my ass in front of it yelling lunch just to see what’d happen.” I’d called it Stinky, but that didn’t count as an insult. Something couldn’t be considered an insult if it was true, right?
Right eyebrow twitching, she fought against a smile. “But you’re okay, right? No bites, broken bones, head injuries, possessions…?”
I smiled and did a little twirl. “All in one piece and still me.”
Mom had a checklist she went through at the end of each job. I was known for taking almost as much damage as I inflicted.
“Oh, and you’re probably going to get a call from the client. I sorta smashed her fence in the process.”
Mom groaned. “I told you to be more careful.”
“It’s not like I tried to break anything.”
“Something tells me you didn’t try hard enough not to break anything, either.”
“In my defense, it wasn’t a simple trap and slap…”
“We can’t afford this.” She reached down and pulled a white envelope out from under a stack of papers. “This is the bill for that Mercedes you smashed.”
“Oh! So not my fault. How was I supposed to know that Spring Heel was gonna land on the car? If it makes you feel any better, I think he was aiming for my head…”
“If you keep this up, we won’t even be able to afford the rent.”
She was right, of course, and it made me feel horrible. “I’m sorry. I guess I’m a wrecking ball wrapped in blue jeans. Take my cut of this job and put it toward the repairs. Keep my paycheck for the next month, too.” A good start, but it didn’t feel like enough. Sure, it would cover the damages—I hoped—but I felt guilty about upsetting her. The bills that were piling up kept her awake at night. This was only going to make things worse. We got a fair amount of business, but the overhead in our line of work was sky high.
As much as I hated the idea, I knew what would cheer her up. “I’ll even throw in pet possessions for the next month.”
