Excerpt from Who He Is [FireNine 01] by S. Q. Williams!

“Maybe you should listen to Montana. He’s right, ya know?”
“Ugh.” I shook my head. “You were listening?”
Gage chuckled, lowering his head. “I didn’t have to look in order to know you two were talking about me. You wouldn’t stop looking at me.” He laughed. “And besides, you should take notes from him. I’ll get you to crack and open up one day… and you’re gonna love the hell out of me for it, too.” A cocky smirk formed on his lips as he looked at me from head to toe.
I placed a hand on my hip, not daring to back down. I knew he was trying to get under my skin but I wasn’t going to let him win. “You know what I think?” I asked rhetorically. Gage folded his arms, smirking. “I think you only do you nasty charades in the bathroom and in public for show. You want someone to pay attention to you—someone to tell you how wrong you are so you can laugh at him or her.” I folded my arms, pressing my lips. “I think you only do it so you won’t have to bother yourself with reality. So you can have a little laugh, but deep down, it’s not what you really want. You’re not as careless as you claim you are.”
For a moment Gage’s face was shocked. His mouth was hung open slightly and his eyes had grown a little wider but in a snap, he clamped his mouth shut and took a step back, placing his sunglasses over his eyes. “Don’t pretend like you know anything about me,” he muttered. “You don’t know, and you never will.” His jaw ticked, proving maybe I was right about him. No one would get as upset as he had unless I was speaking the truth. And the truth hurts.

Eliza Smith has never been the one to seek a relationship. She’s never dated a guy in her life, never even hugged a man (outside of her father/manager of the hot and popular rock band, FireNine) but when she decides to spend her summer on tour with FireNine, it all changes. Eliza really gets to meet Gage Grendel - her former crush from high school and the lead singer of FireNine - and witness sides to him to which she’ll begin to truly despise.
She’ll ignore him, she’ll dislike his ways, she’ll do anything to try and stay away from him until Gage finally gets her to slip up and give in. She agrees on a casual fling with Gage, but soon they’ll both see how the fling will blur into something they can’t control and when it’s finally time for Eliza to go and accomplish her own dreams, she’ll know there’s more she took from Gage than she ever thought possible.
