Synopsis: Laura Keane and her son have been spending summers at their chalet on Bois Blanc Island since her husband was killed in the war. She never let anyone else in after the chaplain delivered the sad news four years ago, so it’s just the two of them, and she wouldn’t change that for the world.
Cameron Rafferty and his friends were keeping secrets. Dangerous secrets and they’d hoped the little island paradise would be a safe place to hide out. The plan to keep a low profile quickly unravels when an accident changes everything. Cameron soon finds himself becoming more involved with the Keane family than he’d intended - and wishing for things he shouldn’t.
I wasn't really sure what to expect from this book when I put my name in to be on the Blog Tour but I can say that I was pretty impressed with it! I thought that I was going to be a bit bored with the plot but I actually really enjoyed it! The plot went at a pace that kept me interested and held my attention! I felt at times that I could guess what was going to happen though but there were also some unexpected twists and turns in this book to make you want to read on and find out more! The plot had romance in it and a bit of suspense! It was a lot better than I was hoping! The characters were written brilliantly! Laura was such an amazing character! She had been through a lot and was trying to move on with her life and Cameron definitely helps her do that! Laura was a character that I found it easy to connect with! She was someone who had been through it all but she was still standing! I also loved her relationship with her son! Cameron was the love interest of Laura and I wasn't expecting his secret at all! Once I found it out I thought that I was going to find it a bit farfetched but I actually didn't! I thought that it was an amazing twist to the story and it continued to be a major part of the story! Sam was the son of Laura and Brendan was the son of Cameron and they were both funny characters! Sam was funny as he was just completely honest and Brendan was funny as he was trying so hard to be a pain in the backside but he really wanted to contribute and have fun with the rest of the characters! There were quite a few other characters that had quite big parts in this book and they were all amazing and added so much to the story! I thought that the big scene at the end could have had more suspense in it if I'm honest! I had sort of been waiting for that scene because I knew that it was going to happen but it was different to what I was expecting! It went quite fast and it should probably have been the most important scene of the book! I can definitely see why this book is a standalone but I think that a novella or another book could lead on from the end of this one! I like the cover! It suits the book but I'm not sure if it would be the sort of cover that would personally draw me in! I am so happy that I took a chance on it though! Big thank you to Kristy for an ARC of Laying Low in Paradise and to Allison for having me on the Blog Tour!

Hi, Kendall...
ReplyDeleteFirst I would like to apologize to you. My 13 year old black lab, Shadow, passed away last Saturday and the blog tour went out of my mind completely. It's the first time I've ever lost a pet and I hadn't had a clue how hard that would be.
Second, I would love to say thank you so much for your kind words about Laying Low in Paradise. I truly appreciate it.
