Blog Tour & Giveaway: The Hurricane by R.J. Prescott!

Publication date: 16th February 2015
Paperback edition: -
Source: Kindle
Rating: 4.5 stars
Synopsis: Emily McCarthy is living in fear of a dark and dangerous past. A gifted mathematician, she is little more than a hollow, broken shell, trying desperately to make ends meet long enough to finish her degree.

Through an unlikely friendship with the aging, cantankerous owner of an old boxing gym, Em is thrown into the path of the most dangerous man that she has ever met.

Cormac “the Hurricane” O’Connell is cut, tattooed and dangerous. He is a lethal weapon with no safety and everyone is waiting for the mis-fire. He’s never been knocked out before, but when he meet Em he falls, HARD. Unlike any other girl he’s ever met, she doesn’t want anything from him, but just being around her makes him want to be a better person.

They are polar opposites who were never meant to find each other, but some things are just worth the fight.

I was contacted by the author about this book before it even had a cover, so all I had to go on was the synopsis! I was really excited about reading it after I read the synopsis! It sounded exactly like my kind of book! I then signed up for the Blog Tour, and was really happy that I got on it! I read my ARC as soon as I got it too! I loved this book! It was a brilliant debut novel! I read it within a few days and loved every minute of reading it! The plot was amazing! It was straightforward, but the romance in it was leaking off the pages! It was also seriously hot and so beautiful at times! There was also a bit of action in the plot too, and a big tense scene near the end, which added a lot! I wasn't able to put this book down as soon as I started reading it too! I always wanted to find out what was going to happen next! It was brilliant and I really enjoyed it! The characters were amazing! Emily was the main character, and she had been through a lot in her life! My heart completely went out to her! She had such a tough time and she went through some really horrible things! These really horrible things left Emily a timid, scared person, but as this book developed, she became more confident and she learned that she didn't have to be scared! I do think that Emily became too confident too soon though for how scared she was! Emily was also a really hardworking person! She had two jobs and was at university, which really impressed me! She managed them all so well too! Cormac was the love interest of Emily, and he was seriously hot! I mean, of course he was! He was also quite a broken character, which came out more as the book developed! It was interesting to find out more about Cormac! It showed me how hard his childhood had been and that it made him want to make something of his life! He worked really hard as well in this book! He was determined to work his way up and be able to provide for Emily, which I admired about him! I loved Cormac! I loved his protectiveness and the way he was with Emily! He treated her like she was his world, and I could see that he really loved her! I wasn't sure if this book was going to be written from both Emily and Cormac's point of views, but it was actually only written from Emily's! I loved it being written from Emily's point of view, but I would have loved to have gotten inside Cormac's head more as well! I loved that the epilogue was written from Cormac's point of view! I think that this book is a standalone, but I can definitely see potential for more books for the secondary characters to make this book into a series! I definitely see potential for another book for Emily and Cormac too, as I think that there's so much more to their story! The secondary characters also played a huge role, and a lot of people really intrigued me, so I think it would be amazing if the author gave them their own stories! The cover for this book is seriously hot! I love it and the guy on the front has the perfect body to represent Cormac's lol! Big thank you to R.J. Prescott for an ARC of The Hurricane and to Xpresso Book Tours for having me on the Blog Tour!

Author bio:

I was born in Cardiff, South Wales although I left to study law at the University of Bristol, England. Four weeks before graduation I fell in love, and stayed. Ten years later I convinced my crazy, wonderful fire fighter husband to move back to Cardiff with me where we live with our two equally crazy sons. Juggling work, writing and family doesn’t leave a lot of time, but curling up on the sofa with a cup of tea and a bar of chocolate for family movie night is definitely the best part of my week. “The Hurricane” is my debut New Adult Novel.

  1. Great review, Kendall! This sounds like a great read and very character driven, too! I already like the sounds of Emily she seems like a likeable MC and easy to root for, too! Glad you liked it! :)
