The emotional and unforgettable new romance from the New York Times bestselling author of the On Dublin Street series.

Alexa Holland’s father was her hero—until her shocking discovery that she and her mother weren’t his only family. Ever since, Alexa has worked to turn her life in a different direction and forge her own identity outside of his terrible secrets,. But when she meets a man who’s as damaged by her father’s mistakes as she is, Alexa must help him.

Caine Carraway wants nothing to do with Alexa’s efforts at redemption, but it’s not so easy to push her away. Determined to make her hate him, he brings her to the edge of her patience and waits for her to walk away. But his actions only draw them together and, despite the odds, they begin an intense and explosive affair.

Only Caine knows he can never be the white knight that Alexa has always longed for. And when they’re on the precipice of danger, he finds he’ll do anything to protect either one of them from being hurt again…

I was offered an ARC of this book for review from the UK publisher, and I'm a huge fan of this author's On Dublin Street series, so I said yes without even thinking about it! I was really excited when I got my ARC that I started reading straightaway! I freaking loved this book! It was full of sexual tension and it was just amazing! I had such a hard time putting it down too! I said I was only going to read the first chapter, but I actually ended up reading the first fifteen chapters before managing to stop lol! Yeah, you're going to want to set aside a lot of time when you start reading this book lol! The plot was amazing! I was enthralled by it, and as I said, I couldn't put it down lol! There were plenty of sexy scenes too, and they were seriously hot! I loved them! There was also a bit of suspense in the plot, which added a lot to the relationship development between the main character and her love interest! The plot just completely blew me away, and I loved every second of reading it! I wish I had managed to read it slower so that it lasted longer lol! The characters were amazing! Alexa was the main character, and I actually felt really sorry for her in this book! She was judged on bad things that other members of her family had done, and that was wrong! Alexa had a backbone though and she stood up for herself and she told people straight! I loved her sarcastic and witty attitude too! She was really funny and very easy for me to connect with! She really impressed me in this book and there wasn't a moment that my opinion about her changed! She had also been through a lot, but she powered on and she tried to do the best she could by herself! Caine was the love interest of Alexa, and he was seriously hot! Like seriously hot! I definitely have a new book boyfriend to add to my list lol! I loved Caine! I could understand why he held so much resentment towards Alexa at the beginning of this book, but I loved that he started to become gentle and show Alexa his softer side as his relationship progressed with her! Caine was also bossy, protective, and quite domineering! He was a guy that was use to control, which made him even hotter in my opinion lol! Like Alexa, he had also been through a lot, but he powered through to become a hugely successful guy, which was admirable and impressive! I also loved Alexa and Caine as a couple! They were seriously hot! I'm really gutted that this book is a standalone! I fell completely in love with Caine's bossiness and Alexa's sarcasm that I would love to read more about them! The ending was beautiful though and everything was wrapped up, so I can understand why this book is a standalone! I see a novella maybe though because I feel there's a bit more to Caine and Alexa's story! I'm definitely going to be anticipating this author's next release as well! I always look forward to the next book from this author lol! The UK cover for this book is really similar to the US cover, which I like! I do think that both covers suit the book, and I love both covers! I have to admit that I like the US cover just a smidge more though lol! Big thank you to Piatkus for an ARC of Hero!
