Blog Tour & Giveaway: The Scars of Us [The Scars of Us 01] by Nikki Narvaez!

Publication date: 9th February 2014
Paperback edition: -
Source: Kindle
Rating: 4.5 stars
Synopsis: Kaiya Marlow has always been cautious, precise in every decision she makes. When her dark past threatens to resurface, she decides to take precautions to protect herself by enrolling in self-defense classes at her gym.

Her instructor, Ryker Campbell, is the tattooed womanizer everyone warns about. Kaiya attempts to resist Ryker's advances, but the more time they spend training together, the harder it is for Kaiya to resist him.

Ryker's view on relationships is simple: strictly sex, nothing more. Haunted by demons from his past, he never allows himself to become attached to any woman. No attachment means no weakness, no vulnerability, no pain. He doesn't realize that his whole world is about to be turned upside down when Kaiya enters his self-defense class. Determined to have her, at least for one night, Ryker sets a plan into motion that will change both of their lives forever.

Will love be able to heal their scars, or are they too deep to overcome?

I've read this author's other series, The Elemental Prophecy, which I completely fell in love with, and although that series is paranormal, I was really looking forward to seeing what the author did with a contemporary book! I knew without a doubt I was going to read this book as soon as I saw the cover! I mean, come on! Look at it! So when I saw Blog Tour sign-ups, I quickly signed up! I loved this book! It had a hot romance, suspense and a pretty big climax! There were also plenty of steamy sex scenes as well! I really enjoyed the plot of this book! It was about two characters who had both been hurt in the past, one more then the other in my opinion, trying to come to terms with everything that had happened to them! The plot did tend to sort of take a while to develop, but once it did, I loved it! It had quite a lot in it as well! I also have too be honest and say that I didn't think this book was going to have a big climax, as it took a while for it to actually happen! When it did though... whoa! I was glued to my Kindle! It was so freaking good! I definitely enjoyed the plot, even though it was pretty emotional and hard to read at times! The characters were pretty amazing! Kaiya was the main female character and she had been through so much! Nobody should ever have to go through what she did, but I have to admit that Kaiya reacted differently to other characters in books I've read that had been through a similar situation to her! Other characters that I've read have been quite skittish, but Kaiya was quite out there in a way, but she still dealt with demons in her head! There were a lot of times in this book where you saw a vulnerable side to Kaiya though, and these times are when I connected with her the most! I also noticed that she sort of had a façade around her to stop people asking questions about her past! My heart did go out to Kaiya for what she went through, but she was such a strong character as well! Ryker was the main make character and he was so hot! I loved how protective he was of Kaiya as well! You know how people say that they'd take a bullet for the one they love? Well, in Ryker's case, he really did lol! I could tell very early on just how deep Ryker's feelings were for Kaiya, but he had to wait for Kaiya to give the okay for their relationship to progress, which was super sweet! I loved that this book was written from both Kaiya and Ryker's point of view as it was much more interesting and I loved getting to see their feeling develop for each other through both of their eyes! I can completely understand why this book is a standalone! The ending was perfect and it really showed how far Kaiya and Ryker's relationship had progressed and also how far they had come as people as well! The cover for this book is just... wow! There are no words to describe how freaking hot and amazing it is! I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it! It's so hot! Big thank you to Nikki for an ARC of and to Enticing Journey Book Promotions for having me on the Blog Tour!
