Publication date: 26th August 2014
Paperback edition: 416 pages
Source: Kindle
Rating: 3.5/4 stars
Synopsis: Two estranged sisters. Their mother’s final wish. A life-changing discovery. A captivating tale of family, love and forgiveness, perfect for fans of Maeve Binchy and Erica James.

Having unexpectedly lost her husband and lacking the means to support herself, Josie DiSanti and her two daughters take refuge in the small town of Mill River, to live with Josie's aunt, Ivy. The sisters, Rose and Emily, are inseparable growing up - until a shocking tragedy tears them apart.

Years later, Rose and Emily return to Mill River for the reading of their mother's will, where they learn that Josie would do anything to force their reconciliation: the sisters must move into neighbouring houses for the summer and work together to locate the key to Josie's safe deposit box, which contains their inheritance. And so, left with no choice, Rose and Emily reluctantly begin their search. But in a place known for its magic and miracles, little do they know that an even greater treasure awaits them...

Favourite quote: "The fault, dear Josie, is not in our stars, but in ourselves."

I wasn't 100% sure about reading this book when the UK publisher contacted me and asked me if I would like to review it! It isn't the kind of book I normally read, but I decided to go outside my comfort zone and give this book a shot! I'm really glad I did! Although, it took me quite a while to get through it, I really liked it! I found it hard to rate though because it developed quite slow, but it was really interesting, so I decided to give it 3 and a half to four stars! I also gave it this rating because this book wasn't my typical read, but it's the perfect read for someone who reads this genre a lot! The plot of this book was so different to books I normally read! The synopsis tells you a lot about what happens in it and it was executed brilliantly! I really liked that the plot went back to 1983 and then it went through the years to 2013! It showed how much the characters had developed! I also loved that the plot had some twists in it too! One big one that I didn't see coming! The plot was also enjoyable and well written! It had a lot in it too! The characters were amazing! There were quite a few characters in this book and it was told from multiple point of views! I normally don't like books being told from more than two different point of views, but being written from all different point of views added a lot to this book and developed the plot more! The story of this book centred around Josie and her moving on with her life after the unexpected death of her husband! We watch her just after her husband has died, then we see her provide for her daughters, and then we see her show her daughters that family is everything! Josie was quite a cunning character and I loved her! I loved her determination, her strength and how far she went to show her girls how much they needed to forgive each other too! She was an amazing character! Rose and Emily were Josie's daughters and they were so different to each other in this book! Rose held a great deal of guilt and she had an alcohol problem meanwhile Emily was more carefree and sort of ceased life! I have to say that it was really sad seeing their relationship break down though and the circumstances surrounding their fall out! Both Rose and Emily came a long way in this book though! They grew a lot and they learned what's most important in life! I loved that this happened! This book was mostly written from Josie, Rose, Emily, Ivy, Claudia, Rose's son, Alex, and Father O'Brien's point of views! The different point of views added a lot to the story! I can completely understand why this book is a standalone! Everything was summed up and everything was answered and the characters had come a long way! The cover for this book suits it perfectly! I love how well it does actually suit what happens in the book and the cover is really pretty too! Big thank you to Sphere from Little, Brown Book Group for an ARC of The Mill River Redemption!
