Blog Tour & Giveaway: Dissidence by Jamie Canosa!

Hey guys! I have here an interview which I did with the fabulous Jamie Canosa for her new book, Dissidence! Enjoy!

To start us off is there anything you'd love to tell us about yourself?

There’s not much to tell really. I spend most of my time hacking away at a keyboard in between wrestling 3 kids, a dog, a bird, and a rabbit. And, when I say wrestling, I mean that literally. All three kiddos climb on me like a human jungle gym WHILE I’m writing, and I literally have to tackle the rabbit to get him back into his cage. Life’s a little wild around here.

How did you come up with the idea to write Dissidence?

I originally got the idea while I was working on a completely unrelated writing project. I had this idea for a scene that just wouldn’t fit in that particular work anywhere, so I decided to create a whole new story. The funny thing is, that scene didn’t make it through the final cuts and isn’t actually in Dissidence at all anymore. Who knows, maybe it will turn up somewhere else someday ;)

What made you decide to make Dissidence a dystopian?

Dissidence was planned as a dystopian from the very beginning. I’m a huge fan of dystopian novels and thought it would be fun to try and write one myself.

How long did Dissidence take you to write?

Just about 2 years. From the time I first got the idea, through revisions, revisions, and more revisions, and then edits. Granted, I did work on a few other things during that time, too.

If Dissidence was made into a movie who do you think would suit the role of playing the main characters?

Oh, boy! Truthfully, I don’t know much about actors or actresses. I’m way more interested in the characters they play. So, I had to look some up, but this is what I came up with. What do you think?

Kaleigh: Ayla Kell

Connor: Alexander Ludwig

When did you start writing?
I originally started back in High School, but I didn’t get serious about it until after college. I read Harry Potter to my son, and he loved it. When we finished, he asked if there was a story about a character with his name that we could read next. I looked, but couldn’t find one, so . . . I wrote him one. His ‘story’ turned into 2 full length books, and things just went form there.

Is there anything you find particularly challenging in writing?

Revisions! Me and revisions just do not get along. The part where I have to look through everything I wrote the first time through, decide what I like and what I hate, and then rewrite the stuff I hate. Yeah, that usually leaves me pulling my hair out.

What book are you currently writing and could you maybe tell us a little bit about that book please!

Right now I’m working on the first of three sequels to ‘Temptation’. Curious as to what happened to Mel, Lucas and Jason after Temptation wrapped up? So was I. So, I decided to turn it into a novella mini-series. Next up is ‘Devotion’. Mel is headed to a new school, but that’s the least of her problems.

I’m also working on an entirely new project more likely to fall in the New-Adult category than Young-Adult. It’s a contemporary novel that touches on some more serious topics.
There may also be something Dissidence related in the works ;)

I look forward to sharing more about all of them with you in the future!

Is there anything you'd like to say to your fans/readers?

Yes! I want to say thank you. Thank you, thank you, thank you! You guys are amazing. Without you, none of this means anything. Each one of you is helping to make my dream come true.

In dystopian America, sixteen-year-old Kaleigh finds out quickly what having a big mouth and not enough brains to keep it shut can earn you. A one-way ticket to the work camps that no one even knows exists.

Nuclear war has ravished the nation, and a century later, the survivors are living in an entirely new world. In a society where everything is decided for you, from where you work to who you marry, dissidence is not taken lightly.

But, even inside the camps, Kaleigh’s fiery spirit refuses to be extinguished. In a single moment of defiance, she manages to spark a riot that ignites into a full-blown rebellion.

With growing numbers counting on her, not just for their freedom, but for their very lives, two different boys vying for her heart, and trouble brewing from within the camp itself, can Kaleigh find a way to step up and become the leader everyone is counting on her to be, or will even the most carefully laid plans come crashing down around her?
