“Dannika walked through the door and flinched at the heavy slam behind her. This was it. She was in. Scott disappeared through a hallway that appeared to lead to a kitchen and left her alone in the den where a big picture window overlooked the prairie of oil rigs.
She wondered how much time they really did have. If Rens and Carl had someone else already putting their plan into play, she wondered what she would have to do to make this interference successful- and possibly get some information about the key on top of it.
Rens strolled through the kitchen door, those slits for eyes Adie had mentioned apparently his most prominent feature. “Well, well, well. If it isn’t my little addailant. I’ve healed up well-don’t you think?”
“You look fine. Can I sit down?”
Rens motioned to a vintage print couch. Dannika sat and rubbed beneath her lip, afraid her lipstick might have smeared over her lip ring. Rens sat opposite her in a matcing wing-back chair.
“To what do I owe the pleasure?”
“I want in.”
Rens leaned back and lit a cigar. He blew a puff of smoke, then locked eyes with her. “In on what?”

Converse lives with her husband and four children in beautiful Montana. She
squeaked by with a Business Degree at Carroll College, only to realize (while
glancing back at transcripts years later) that the only A’s she got were in
Writing and Literature classes.

wishes there were more hours in the day (who doesn’t, right), and that her mind
would just shut down sometimes.
If
not writing, or researching, she would really like to be outside with her
family, and preferably on her snowboard. Or just petting their horses.
