Blog Tour & Giveaway: Fight or Flight by Jamie Canosa!

Publication date: 12th March 2013
Paperback edition: -
Source: Kindle
Rating: 5 stars
Synopsis: Be smart.
Keep your head down.
And look out for number one.

These are the rules Jay has lived by for the past two years. The rules of surviving life on the streets. But when Em comes bursting into his life, in all of her disastrous glory, the rules go right out the window.

Survive.
Flee what’s been left behind.
And never look back.

Emerson’s plan was simple. Though, it was easier said than done. The city streets are dangerous and unforgiving to a new arrival. Especially, a seventeen-year-old girl who’s never known anything but life in the suburbs. Sometimes, however, what’s lurking behind those white picket fences can be more frightening than any dark alley.

Both of them made the same decision when life got overwhelming—to run from their demons. Brought together by fate or circumstance, Em and Jay find the kind of love neither of them ever expected. But, when those demons come back to haunt them and their love is on the line, which instincts will they choose to follow this time . . . Fight or Flight?

Another absolutely amazing book from the wonderful, Jamie Canosa! I honestly wasn't expecting to be asked by Jamie to beta read this book and then receive it at the beginning of February but I am so glad that I did get asked! As soon as I started reading Fight or Flight I honestly couldn't put it down! I kept wanting to read on and seeing more of the different challenges that Jay and Emerson were going to have to face as a couple and also to survive! I honestly loved everything about this book from the plot to the characters! The plot was quite scary actually but it was very realistic and it really shows you what some people have to go through every day to survive! The plot was quite sad to read and also to watch the characters go through what they did was heart-breaking but it shows you that even in your darkest hour, you can find love and that one person who will save you! I also loved that Jamie didn't sugar-coat the plot! The characters were written amazingly! Emerson 'Em' was the main character and I just loved her! She had been through a lot before this book starts and then she goes through a lot during the book as well! You can't help but feel sorry for her! In this book she learns how to stand on her own two feet, with her love interest's help, and she manages to turn into a stronger person! Jay was the love interest of Em and he was perfect! He protected Em and the whole way through this book Jay was determined to do what he could to help Em and to keep her safe! Em and Jay's relationship developed at the perfect pace! I was enthralled with their relationship as it was in such a dangerous environment but it was so sweet! I also loved that this book was written in dual point of views! I really want another book to this one as I want to read more of Jay and Em's story as Jay and Em as a couple and this book are definitely one of my favourites! When I beta read this book it didn't have a cover so I had my own image of what I thought the cover could have looked like and the cover that this book has is stunning! I had a similar image in my head but they are similar! Big thank you to Jamie for letting me Beta read Fight or Flight for her!

Interview!
Is there anything that you would like to tell us about yourself?

Well, I’m a full time author, as well as a full time chef, chauffeur  maid, hair dresser, referee, and zoo keeper. That’s what happens when you have three crazy kids and three animals living in your house.

I love the sun and hate the snow, so don’t ask me why I live in upstate NY. I love books and probably spend more money buying them than I actually make writing them. I love to travel and, though I rarely get the opportunity now, someday I plan to see the world. I am, by far, more confident around fictional characters than real people. And, I have an inexplicable phobia of talking on the phone.
What inspired you to write a book focusing on the issues of Fight and Flight?

Okay, time to get serious for a second. I chose to write about the issues addressed in Fight or Flight because they’re real. The book may be a work of fiction, but unfortunately abuse is not. It comes in a lot of different forms and isn’t even always physical. Sadly, the number of teens who face those kinds of issues in disturbingly high.

Before becoming a writer, I had plans to work as a teen counsellor in some regard. I care about teens and the unique hardships that age range is faced with every day. I guess I just wanted to let anyone out there dealing with those atrocities know that they aren’t alone. That there are people out there who care. That there is help to be found.
Do you have a favorite quote from Fight or Flight?

One of my favorites is:

“Jay hated that Em couldn’t see herself the way he saw her. That she couldn’t see the beautiful, kind, lovable person she really was. All she saw were the invisible scars that monster had left on her, and Jay hated him for it. Even now he couldn’t stop him from hurting her. From making her feel like no one could ever love her. From making her feel like she couldn’t love herself.
One day he would make him pay for what he'd done to her. One day he'd show her exactly who he saw when he looked at her. One day he'd make sure she saw it, too. But for today, he would just hold her close and keep loving her enough for the both of them."
Do you have a playlist when you write and have any musicians helped inspire Fight of Flight?

Normally I can’t have any noise while I’m writing. Not easily accomplished around here. But there you have it. With Fight or Flight, however, I had a whole playlist of songs I listened to whenever I was having writers block.

The most influential songs were:

Damaged by Plumb
We Found Love by Rihanna
I Won’t Give Up by Jason Mraz
Glass by Thompson Square

What book are you currently writing and could you maybe tell us a little bit about that book please?

I’m working on three projects at the moment.
T
he first is the sequel to my debut novel, Dissidence, which is scheduled for release in June. This will be the finale of the YA Dystopian series set in post-apocalyptic America. The uprising is in full swing and everyone is left facing the consequences of their actions.

Secondly, is the third installment of my Heart and Soul novella series, which will be releasing possibly as soon as next month. Mel’s got more than her fair share of hotties and trouble with Lucas and Jason by her side, once again.

And finally, I’m working on a spin off novel to Fight or Flight. More details on that one to come. ;)

Follow me on Facebook or my blog to keep up-to-date on all of these.
Is there anything you would like to say to your fans/readers?

Yes. I would like to say THANK YOU!!!! Without you I couldn’t do what I love. It’s that simple. Time is the one resource we can never reclaim once we’ve spent it, and while I do appreciate the monetary cost to you, what I’m awed by is that fact that so many of you chose to use this irreplaceable resource to read what I spent so much of my time to write. Thank you for giving me a chance and for all of the kind and encouraging words you’ve shared with me. You all make me J
