Synopsis: Gemma thought she had said her good-byes and had felt every possible emotion she could before her soul was detached again. Deep down inside, she hoped she’d never wake up from it because, in her eyes, life without emotion and memories isn’t worth living.
But she does wake up and discovers she can still feel and remember everything she experienced over the last few months. Alex is also telling her that everything’s okay, that he didn’t betray her, and that what she thought happened really didn’t.
Gemma isn’t sure if she can trust Alex, so she tries to keep her distance from him, even though the electric connection and her desire make it nearly impossible. The only person she can trust is Laylen, but even that becomes complicated when the lines of their friendship begin to blur.
While Gemma struggles with her emotions and relationships, she searches for her mother, entering a dangerous world of secrets, seduction, and evil. The further she digs into her mother’s secrets and past, the more she wonders what waits for her at the end of her search and if maybe some things are better left in the dark.
I definitely preferred this book over Shattered Promises! I beta-read Shattered Promises and thought that it needed some changes to make it suit the first book in the Young Adult series more, but Fractured Souls was amazing! It felt like I hadn't actually read the Young Adult version of it and it was my first time reading it! The plot was amazing! It was like reading it all over again, but there were changes that made it more adult! There were some immensely hot scenes added that made me swoon as well! I obviously knew what was going to happen in the plot as it's the same as the Young Adult book, but the small changes in it kind of made me think that it could be taken down a different root and not down the same way as the Young Adult version! I like that it wasn't changed enough that I didn't recognise it though! The characters were even better in this book! Gemma was still the main character and I loved her even more in this book! I felt like I connected with her more in this book than the last one as I felt that she had developed very well as a character! I felt that she was more confident in this book and what I liked was that she was still the same determined character from the Young Adult series! Alex in this book was so hot! I really got to see his protective side more as well! I completely fell in love with Alex in this book and I'm so looking forward to seeing more of him in the next book! I freaking adored that the love triangle was made more recognisable in this book! I didn't really see in it in the Young Adult series, but in this book I could definitely see it more! The love triangle is obviously between Gemma, Alex and Laylen and I do have to say that I'm Team Alex for several reasons, but I have a serious soft spot for Laylen! I loved that the author changed the ending in this book! I thought that it was going to end the same as the Young Adult version, but it was slightly different! I didn't see the change coming so I was very impressed! I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in this series and seeing what changes it will have in it compared to the Young Adult version! The cover is hot! I won't even tell you the word that came out my mouth when I first saw it!
